The future of the 2022 Dodge Durango seems uncertain. Rumors suggest that the Durango could meet its end in 2024. So, if you want this three-row SUV for your family, act fast. You can buy one before it’s too late.

As the Durango continues to shake up the SUV segment with class-leading towing, incredible utility, and plenty of muscle, it has a few changes to make a note of. While the new features are exciting, we will miss a few things that are going away.

What’s new for the 2022 Durango?

The 2022 Dodge Durango is losing the SRT Hellcat trim. The 6.4-liter SRT HEMI V8 engine won’t be available in the Durango after its one-year production run. We will miss its 840 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque.

But on a positive note, the third row is now standard, providing seating for up to seven passengers instead of only five. It was a little odd for the third row to cost extra. The driver’s seat comes with standard power too.

Every Durango trim now includes standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection. These features weren’t available on the base trim and had a $495 price for other trim levels. The ParkSense rear park assist system and bright roof rails are included too.

With the GT trim, you get heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, remote start, and a power liftgate. These are pretty convenient standard features.

The Plus Group package is now available for the SXT, GT, and R/T trims. The Plus Package gains Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop, Advanced Brake Assist, and Lane Departure Warning-Plus.

With the GT Plus, you get seat memory, automatic rain-sensing wipers, cargo area scuff plates, leather seats with suede inserts, and heated seats in the second row.

The R/T Plus package adds Nappa leather with perforated inserts and accent stitching, a sunroof, Forward Collison Warning with Active  Braking, the Harmon Kardon premium audio system, and the Premium Interior Package with a wrapped instrument panel and Dianmice soft-touch headliner.

Also, the Blacktop Package can be added to the SXT, GT, and R/T trims. It includes the SRT performance hood and 265/50 performance all-season tires.

How much muscle does the 2022 Durango have?

The 2022 Dodge Durango doesn’t need the V8 HEMI to bring the heat. The 3.6-liter V8 engine pumps out 295 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 5.7-liter V8 engine for 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. With the 6.4-liter V8 engine, you get 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.

When properly equipped, the Durango can tow up to 8,700 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,924 lbs. It can haul campers, boats, and trailers with ease. It can also accelerate from 0 to 60 in 6.2 seconds.

The future for the Durango is uncertain. It could be phased out for the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Only time and probably sales will tell, and we will keep you updated as we learn more.
