2022 Ford EcoSport Vs. 2023 Hyundai Venue: Pint-Size SUV Showdown
Small SUVs typically seek to bridge the gap between large, inefficient vehicles and more diminutive, gas-sipping cars. Enter the 2022 Ford EcoSport and 2023 Hyundai Venue, a couple of miniature SUVs with competitive starting price points. So which one is the better bet for you?
How much is an EcoSport?
The 2022 Ford EcoSport starts at around $23,335 for the base-model S trim, making it more affordable than a comparable Honda HR-V or Chevrolet Trailblazer. Moreover, the higher trim SE, SES, and Titanium models start at around $26,805, $29,500, and $29,690, respectively.
However, the 2023 Hyundai Venue undercuts the EcoSport’s price tag. For instance, the entry-level Venue SE starts at just $20,835. Beyond the entry-level Venue, the SE and SEL demand about $22,585 and $24,085, respectively.
How long is the Hyundai Venue’s warranty?
The 2022 Hyundai Venue’s basic warranty is much better than a comparable Ford EcoSport. Specifically, the Venue is covered by Hyundai’s five-year, 60,000-mile warranty, two years and 25,000 miles more than the Ford model.
Moreover, the Venue’s warranty outperforms the EcoSport beyond the basic coverage, per TrueCar. The Hyundai model has a 10-year drivetrain warranty, twice the coverage of the EcoSport. Moreover, the Ford model’s rust warranty length is five years, two less than the Hyundai Venue.
What are the disadvantages of EcoSport?
Unfortunately for fans of the EcoSport, the small SUV model is more expensive and less efficient than competitors like the Hyundai Venue. For instance, the EcoSport’s 25 mpg combined is about six less than the Hyundai model.
However, the Ford model isn’t all bad; the EcoSport packs standard all-wheel drive (AWD), unlike the Hyundai Venue or Nissan Kicks. That’s an important feature for drivers who want to pilot their small SUVs through inclement weather like heavy rain or snow.
Why is Ford discontinuing the EcoSport?
The Blue Oval will discontinue the EcoSport instead of producing a 2023 model. The EcoSport didn’t sell well enough to justify another year, so Ford canceled it. As a result, the smallest conventional SUV in Ford’s 2023 lineup will be the Escape.
On the other hand, the EcoSport’s rivals will live on for another model year, including the Hyundai Venue.
Which is better, the Ford EcoSport or Hyundai Venue?
When it comes to warranty, fuel efficiency, and price, the 2023 Hyundai Venue is the no-brainer in the duo. However, with just 121 horsepower on tap, the Venue is underpowered for the segment, producing 45 fewer ponies than the EcoSport.
Moreover, the Ford SUV model offers standard AWD and more cargo capacity than the Venue. However, both SUV models fail to outperform the competition in a few ways. For instance, both models have less cargo volume than the Honda HR-V and Nissan Kicks.
