Does the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline Off-Road Better Than a Jeep?
The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline was finally unveiled, and from first appearances, it looks fantastic. It’s got a new look, a better engine, and some serious off-roading capabilities. Yet does the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline off-road better than a Jeep Grand Wagoneer? Let’s look at what each full size SUV has to offer, and which can handle the trails better.
The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline has bigger tires
The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline is ready for off-roading. According to Road and Track, it’s got 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires. The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer, on the other hand, has 22×9 inch Goodyear tires. The advantage here is for the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline.
That isn’t the only part of the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline that will make it killer at off-roading. The 2022 Expedition Timberline has a new underbody shielding, just like the F-150 Raptor. It also has 10.6” of ground clearance.
MotorTrend took the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer off-road to try out its 4-wheel drive. The particular Wagoneer they tested had Quadra-Trac, which offers five surface settings: Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Sand/Mud. Overall, they found the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer to be a worthy off-roader. They did mention that the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer was likely too “fancy” to be taken off-roading.
What engine will be in the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline and 2022 Jeep Wagoneers?
The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline is coming with a 3.5-liter, twin turbo V6 capable of 440-hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. The Expedition Timberline’s engine setup will allow it to climb more easily, making it a pro at off-roading.
Additionally, the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline has a cool feature called Trail Turn Assist. This is just like the Bronco’s feature, which “brakes the inside rear wheel to help tighten the truck’s turning radius on loose surfaces.”
The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer’s engine is a 5.7-liter V8 that can do 392-hp and 404 lb-ft of torque.
They both have fresh new looks
The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline looks unlike any other Ford Expedition before it. It has a mesh grille and LED headlights, with an orange LED strip across the front.
Since the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is essentially new to the game – the last Jeep Wagoneer was released roughly 30 years ago, everything about it is new. It even loses its famous wood paneling. Like the 2022 Expedition, the 2022 Wagoneer will have LED lights.
How much does the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline and the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer cost? They’re about the same. The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline should cost about $65,000, while the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer should come in at about $68,845.
While the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer should be pretty good off-road, it doesn’t seem to be quite as good as the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline. If you’re looking for a full-size SUV that you can take off-road, you’ll want to go for the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline model. It has everything you need to take your SUV off the road.
