Is the 2022 Ford F-150 Better Than the 2021 F-150?
As long as the chip shortage gets under control, the 2022 Ford F-150 should be widely available. But does the new model year have any advantages over the 2021 Ford F-150? Let’s see how they compare.
2022 Ford F-150: What’s new?
Visually, the 2022 Ford F-150 remains pretty much the same as the 2021 F-150. However, there is a new color known as Atlas Blue. It’s the primary color being used for the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning.
Also, the 2022 F-150 gained a new STX Black Appearance Package. According to Pickup Truck Talk, it’s available on XL models with the 101A trim level. Also, there is a new Black Appearance Package for the XLT, Lariat, and Platinum models.
The PowerBoost Hybrid models look similar to the gas-powered models too. However, the Lightning sets itself apart with a long LED stripe across the front bumper. The 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R is coming too.
Does the 2022 F-150 have any upgrades?
There are a few equipment upgrades for the 2022 Ford F-150, including the Bed Utility Package. This option adds a tailgate step, an LED light switch, a plastic bed liner, and tie-down brackets and cleats. I have to admit that the step and rail to hold on to do make it much easier to access the truck bed. However, most truck owners are probably taller than 5’1″.
Other than that, the 2022 F-150 is pretty much a carryover model. A few additional features that weren’t available with the launch of the 2021 F-150 are now available, though.
For example, you can access Ford BlueCruise technology. It’s part of a technology package known as the Active 2.0 Prep Kit that costs $2,600. The system allows you to go hands-free on over 130,000 miles of mapped highways.
We also can’t forget about the Onboard Scales. They display the approximate weight of your payload on the infotainment screen. The weight can be viewed on the Ford Pass app too. Also, the taillights show the amount of the payload with four bars.
The top bar will blink when the load is maxed out. Use the scale mode to zero out the current load to weigh added items. On that note, the 2022 Ford F-150 can tow up to 14,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 3,250 lbs.
Use the new smart towing hitch to measure the tongue weight of the trailer. It will display the best weight distribution and hitch overloading on the infotainment screen, app, and taillights too.
How much does the 2022 F-150 cost?
You can get started in a 2022 Ford F-150 for about $29,990. This is the MSRP for the entry-level, so the destination fee and dealership markups haven’t been added. This is a $700 increase over the 2021 model.
The 2022 F-150 entered production in November. The order books have already opened. Currently, the production of the 2022 Ford F-150 is running about a month behind. That’s not bad, considering the long delays that plagued the Ford Bronco in 2021.
Not much has changed for 2022, but the F-150 did gain innovative towing tech. It’s worth buying unless you want to wait for the Ford F-150 Lightning or more robust F-150 Raptor R.
