Ford’s F-150 and Ram’s 1500 are two of America’s favorite trucks. Both automakers offer bare-bones work trucks for less than $30k. Both companies sell flagship supertrucks. But let’s take a look at the mid-trim 2022 F-150 vs the mid-trim Ram 1500: Lariat vs Laramie.

The 2022 F-150 and the 2022 Ram 1500 are both capable half-ton trucks. The Ram’s latest redesign was for the 2019 model year. Ram engineered an all-new eTorque mild-hybrid system and available air-ride suspension. This fifth-generation Ram 1500 is still winning awards for being a capable and smooth-driving light-duty pickup truck.

Ford redesigned its F-150 for the 2021 model year. The new truck features a ten-speed automatic transmission and some of the largest standard infotainment screens in its segment. Other new features include fold-flat front seats and an optional “work space” center console desk.

The Laramie and Lariat are both mid-trim trucks. They are as capable as their entry-level cousins but come with leather-trimmed seats, distinct badging, and upgraded infotainment systems.

The Ford F-150 Lariat offers more features standard

For 2022, Ford’s F-150 Lariat starts at $46,140. That is for a 2WD two-door truck with an extended cab. The 2022 Ram 1500 Laramie is just a bit steeper, starting at $48,250. That said, the entry-level Laramie comes with Ram’s larger four-door cab: the crew cab.

Ram Laramie standard features include an Alpine nine-speaker system, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and a 7-inch digital driver’s gauge cluster. This truck’s front seats are 10-way units, both heated and ventilated.

The F-150 Lariat offers several standard features that cost extra on the Laramie. One of these is the Ford’s 12-inch LCD infotainment screen.

In addition, every F-150 comes with Ford’s CoPilot360 with emergency braking. The F-150 Lariat adds lane-keep assist. These safety features cost extra on the Ram Laramie.

The F-150 Lariat even offers LED headlamps that come on automatically when you turn your windshield wipers on and automatic high/low beams. Automatic high/low beams for the Ram Laramie are an add-on.

The Ford F-150 Lariat offers some features no Ram can match

One major advantage of the F-150 Lariat is its standard drivetrain. This Ford comes equipped with the turbocharged EcoBoost V6 and a ten-speed transmission. The Ram 1500 Laramie comes standard with a naturally-aspirated V6 and eight-speed transmission. Customers seeking more power can upgrade to the 5.7-liter HEMI V8. Ram offers no turbocharged engine options on its 1500.

In addition, the F-150 Lariat comes with trim-specific 360-degree work lights. This setup includes mirror-mounted LEDs. Bed lighting and work lighting for the Ram 1500 Laramie is an upsell.

Finally, if you prefer a two-door truck the choice is clear: Ram does not offer the 1500 Laramie with two doors.

Overall, you can option the Ram 1500 Laramie with many of the Ford F-150 Lariat’s features–as long as you don’t want a turbocharged engine or a two-door truck–but in the end, the Ford F-150 Lariat offers more value at $50k.
