Ford’s all-electric F-150 has finally been revealed, and the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has a lot going for it. Not only does it look like a regular F-150, but it’s also incredibly affordable, especially compared to other EV trucks. Here’s a comparison between the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning and the 2022 GMC Hummer EV2. 

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is an affordable truck

As MotorTrend wrote, the price tag of the Ford F-150 Lightning is one of its most startling features. Most EVs, for one reason or another, cost quite a bit of money, especially when trucks can also get pretty pricy. However, Ford has decided to price the Ford F-150 Lightning at a starting MSRP of a tad under $40,000.

While not all details are currently available, there will be three other trims for the Lightning. The XLT will start at about $54,000, the Platinum will be about $90,000, but the Lariat’s price tag is unknown.

The Hummer EV2, meanwhile, also has four trims, but none are really affordable. The cheapest trim, the regular EV2, will start at about $80,000. However, it won’t even be available until 2024. The next most affordable trim is the EV3X, and it will start at about $100,000. However, this trim won’t be available until 2022.

The Edition 1, which is the trim that will be available in 2021, costs over $112,000. Pricing isn’t known for the EV2X, but it’s not coming until 2023 anyway.

What the electric F-150 offers for its price

While GMC may have equipped the Hummer EV2 with equipment that’s worthy of its price tag, Ford has also done that for the Ford F-150 Lightning. Like MotorTrend wrote, the F-150 Lightning has a five-passenger SuperCrew cab with a 5.5-foot bed, and that’s exactly the same dimensions as the regular F-150. As such, F-150 fans can transition rather seamlessly into their new truck.

In terms of specs, its electric motors will provide about 426 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. This allows the truck to be as fast as lightning, as it can accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in about 4.4 seconds. It will also have a decent maximum range of about 230 miles. When properly equipped, the Lightning can get up to 563 hp, and its range will be 300 miles instead.

A properly equipped Lightning can also tow up to 10,000 pounds, and its max payload capacity will be about 2,000 pounds. That being said, like any other EV, the Lightning will have a frunk, and the frunk will be able to hold 400 pounds of cargo. To top it all off, the Lighting also has a 15.5-inch vertical touchscreen display, and it’s the centerpiece of the F-150 Lightning’s infotainment system. 

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is a great value

Due to those great standard features, it’s no surprise that MotorTrend remarked that a customer could buy two F-150 Lightning XLTs for the price of one Hummer EV2 Edition 1. That’s not even considering the fact that the Ford F-150 Lightning is currently eligible for the federal EV tax credits, and they will potentially shave off thousands of dollars from the EV’s already affordable price tag. 

Because of that, unless the Hummer offers something that customers absolutely want or need, the F-150 Lightning seems like it’s going to be a far better value than the Hummer will ever be. After all, the F-150 Lightning offers almost everything that an F-150 fan may want in a truck while being a very efficient and cost-competitive truck, to begin with. 

The Ford F-150 Lightning’s biggest competitor may not even be another electric truck, but rather the regular F-150 itself. But given Lightning model’s impressive specs and affordable price tag, the F-150 Lightning may be able to beat its competition and then some.
