The 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty Is the Definition of Having Nothing to Prove
The truck world is a strange one full of mystery and contradiction. For a segment seemingly focused on work and toughness, trucks consistently get ripped to shreds by reviewers like Consumer Reports and KBB. The super- and heavy-duty work trucks, on the other hand, are a bit more straightforward and predictable as a segment. The 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty, for instance, has been revealed, and it proves how little it has to prove.
The 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty is still King of the Jungle
Ford has released the new 2022 F-250, and it is exactly what you would expect it to be; huge, strong, and mostly unchanged. According to MotorTrend, the F-250 Super Duty received most of its updates in 2020. As for this new model, almost everything is carrying over from that last update. Unlike most instances of carrying over old updates, this is in no way a bad thing for fans of the model.
These types of trucks aren’t usually thought of as technological masterpieces, but that is a misconception. The Super Duty has all the same tech as any other car on the road these days. The 2022 F-250 Super Duty didn’t change anything else, but it did get hooked up with some slick new technologies.
What’s new for the 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty?
The F-250 SD will now be available with the Ford Cloud-connected Sync 4 infotainment system interfaced through the massive landscape-oriented 12-inch touch screen. If physical buttons still pull your tractor, the F-250 will still have the knobs and buttons you’re used to.
As noted by MotorTrend, the 2021 F-250 Super Duty comes equipped with the Sync 3 system and a measly 8-inch screen. It is only right for a truck this large to be fitted with an appropriately huge infotainment screen. Not to mention, the Sync 4 system has two times the computing power as the previous version. New to this system is wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Sync AppLink apps. This new system will only be available on the Lariat trim and higher. The F-250 Super Duty is joining the new Bronco, Mustang Mach-E, and the new F-150 in having the option for the Sync 4 system.
What are the Super Duty specs?
The Super Duty line includes F-250, F-350, and F-450. The Super Duty trucks claim many best-in-class towing, hauling, and general performance stats across the board. Like I said earlier, the new Super Duty isn’t all that new, mechanically – but no one really asked for it to be. It will still have gas and diesel powerplant options: the 7.3-liter V8 makes 430 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque and the turbodiesel 6.7-liter “Power Stroke” V8 makes 475 hp and earth moving 1,050 lb-ft of torque. The 6.2-liter V8 remains an option, too. The max towing capacity is 37,000 lbs with a goose-neck hookup. With a standard fifth-wheel trailer, the Super Duty can pull 32,500 lbs.
The overall look is still the same, but Ford has added a couple of small tweaks that modernize the truck’s look. Ford added painted bumpers and mirror caps which adds a little flair to the otherwise businessy truck. Also, it has optional black wheels and a black oval. The blue oval can now be black. This truck is the definition of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
