If there’s one thing about pickup truck owners, it’s that they love to customize their vehicles. And although the 2022 Ford Maverick has only been available for a short time, that has not stopped owners from making this compact truck their own. Recently, it looks like someone was not satisfied with how much adventuring their Maverick was capable of doing. And in order to change that, they custom-built a camper for the bed. That’s right, a lift was not enough for this truck. The owner, Justin, built a homemade camper for Ford’s small pickup.

Someone gave the 2022 Ford Maverick a camper

Pickup trucks and camping go hand-in-hand. So, it makes sense that some Ford Maverick owners are interested in maximizing the capability of their small trucks. And that is exactly what First Edition Maverick owner, Justin, has done with his pickup. In the video below, you can see just how crazy this custom camper is.

Not only is the Maverick camper a great addition for sleeping ability, it also has a number of convenience features. According to Motor1, these include things like solar power, a 14-gallon water tank, and a 3-gallon water heater. All of that combined means this truck is now ready for just about anything.

Does Ford sell a camper for the Maverick?

It doesn’t look like Ford is currently selling an OEM camper for the Maverick pickup truck. That said, if you have the willpower, it looks like you can certainly build one yourself. And that could be a fun project for folks who want to take their small truck on more adventures.

Now, you may not need to go as extreme as Justin did with his build. But, with the kind of equipment he has, you could certainly live out of that Maverick if you really needed to. Plus, it’s just plain cool to see folks making their Ford truck their own. Even if it means going through the work of custom fabrication.

Is the Maverick good for camping?

As a compact truck, the Ford Maverick is a decent adventuring vehicle. While the hybrid engine only offers front-wheel drive (for now,) the turbocharged engine has optional all-wheel drive. With the more potent powerplant, you can enjoy added horsepower and the benefits of AWD. And those will both certainly come in handy while doing something like camping.

Another perk of this pickup is the available FX4 Off-Road package. This package is only offered to the XLT and Lariat trims, and you must have the EcoBoost engine with AWD. But, it does deliver on some helpful things when taking the road less traveled. These include things like improved cooling capabilities and an off-road suspension.

While the Maverick won’t be as capable as something like a Jeep Wrangler, you won’t be making the same on-road compromises that you do with a dedicated off-roader. Even better is the cost of this small truck. The base model starts at around $20,000, which means you don’t have to break the bank in order to get a new pickup. But, if you want to buy the Maverick today, you’ll probably have a difficult time.
