During EPA testing on the fuel economy, the Maverick truck racked up a fuel economy rating of 37 mpg. During testing with The Drive, that jumped up to around 44.1 mpg. These numbers are in-line with some of the unofficial testing done by new Maverick owners. The new Ford truck comes with a hybrid powertrain as one of the standard options, making it an accessible buy for real-life buyers. It isn’t an out-of-reach top-level trim but one of the entry-level options.

During the trip described by The Drive, the 2022 Maverick Lariat Hybrid truck still had more than 40 miles left in the tank. Not a bad first drive, right?

269.9 miles of the 595.2 total miles were on the electric motor on that same trip. As far as expectations go, that’s a pretty high bar to set and achieve. Other users on the Maverick Truck Club forum have achieved similar results. Another user reached 575 miles on a single tank with an average of 42.8 mpg fuel economy. That user still had 19 miles of range left, too.

The 2022 Maverick also comes in a non-hybrid 2.0L Ecoboost option, but that one likely won’t have such an extensive range. It appears the overachieving model is the 2.5L four-cylinder hybrid model that is getting better range than what Ford announced a while back. However, the numbers for those aren’t rolling out just yet.

The 2022 Ford Maverick is one of the first trucks to land in buyers’ hands at the end of the year. You could say this is setting the bar pretty high. As this is the first version of this new Ford truck, it will be exciting to see how it grows over the next few years. However, don’t plan on seeing one in your driveway if you don’t already have a reservation. It is one of the most popular new trucks rolling off the production line.
