The 2022 Ford Maverick brings pickup trucks back to what they used to be; smaller, functional, and affordable. What is it about the new Maverick’s smaller stature that’s so appealing (besides its cost, of course)? Surprisingly, a whole lot. The 2022 Ford Maverick offers what people want, and even a little bit more.

How much is the 2022 Ford Maverick?

The 2022 Ford Maverick is cheap. It starts at $19,995, which is astonishingly low, even for a basic pickup truck. Of course, you have to tack on the $1,495 destination fee, which Road Show notes makes the 2022 Maverick a still-affordable $21,490. Add to that the fact that it is a hybrid, and you have a very good deal.

Road Show notes that while the base trim may have everything you need, you may be missing a few features that have become almost standard in new cars. Some of these include things like a push-start button and electric side mirrors. To help you forget that you’ll have to use a key to start your pickup like it’s the 2010s, Ford has put an 8” touchscreen in the Maverick. If you can live without those niceties, you’ll likely be very happy with your 2022 Maverick.

How big is the 2022 Maverick?

The 2022 Ford Maverick is certainly smaller than the average pickup truck, but it isn’t minuscule. It measures 200 inches and has a 4.5-foot bed, which is perfectly respectable. Road Show notes that it has a unibody build and comes standard with 2WD, though you can upgrade for 4WD.

The 2022 Ford Maverick shares a platform with the Ford Escape and the Bronco Sport. As one might imagine, this does make it handle somewhat like a car. If you plan on using the Maverick as your daily driver, this may be a welcome facet of the Maverick.

The interior of the 2022 Ford Maverick will feel like a car too, in the best possible ways. It’s roomy, like an SUV, and it has luxury touches and package upgrades that will make you feel like you’re in a luxury truck (or almost, anyway).

Will the Ford Maverick be electric?

While not electric, the 2022 Ford Maverick will come standard with a hybrid powertrain. There are three trim levels of the 2022 Maverick, including the XL, XLT, and the Lariat. If you really hate the idea of a hybrid pickup, you can opt for the 2.0-liter gas-powered Maverick.

The engine in the 2022 Ford Maverick will be a 2.5-liter 94kW, capable of doing 191-hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. The highway estimates for the range are 33 mpg, and combined is 37. Road Show says you can go 500 miles between fill-ups.

Besides its hybrid powertrain, the 2022 Ford Maverick will have other cutting-edge technology as well. For example, Ford Maverick owners will be able to use 3D printing to personalize their pickup truck’s accessories and share their plans with other Maverick owners.

Perhaps the best thing about the 2022 Ford Maverick isn’t just its simplicity. Sure, it doesn’t have a whole lot of extras, but many people likely find those unnecessary, anyway. That’s not to say they’re not nice, but if you just want a basic pickup truck and you don’t want to pay a whole lot for things you don’t really need, you’ll probably love the 2022 Maverick. Yet it isn’t just the simplicity that makes it such a great truck. It’s the fact that it gives people what they really need, while being greener, more cost-effective, and still fun – being able to use a 3D printer to make your truck really, truly your own isn’t something you can do in other trucks. Ford is committed to electric vehicles, and it seems they’ve gotten the 2022 Ford Maverick just right.
