We hate to deliver bad news about the Ford Maverick. We would prefer to have something to make you go truck yeah! But unfortunately, 2022 Ford Maverick orders might be delayed until 2023. Now, this little truck is even harder to get.

According to Muscle Cars and Trucks, the 2022 Ford Maverick faces a few production issues that may cause your order to be delayed until 2023. While Ford already stopped taking orders for the 2022 model to catch up on production, they ran into new problems.

New supply constraints are preventing Ford from scheduling multiple retail orders for production. As a result, some orders will be pushed back to 2023. Currently, order books for the 2023 Ford Maverick are expected to open in August 2022.

However, that’s subject to change. The ongoing semiconductor chip shortage and other supply constraints may create more delays.

What is causing Maverick delays?

A memo was sent to dealers explaining that 2022 Ford Maverick production should prioritize unscheduled retail orders based on the date that dealerships submitted customer orders.

The Maverick model, part availability, and amount of vehicles the customer’s dealership receives also play a role in production timing.

Ford provided a list of options and features that are causing constraints:

  • Hard trifold tonneau cover
  • Spray-in bed liner
  • Bed extender
  • Bed tray
  • Cargo management system
  • Lariat luxury package
  • XLT luxury package
  • Co-Pilot 360 package

Those who selected any of the options above should expect a phone call from the Ford dealership where they placed their order. This call will cover the available options. Customers can decide to change their order with the dealership.

Ford doesn’t recommend changing your Ford Maverick trim level because that could change the receipt date of the order and push it back even further. If you want your Maverick faster, it may be helpful to remove the options that are causing delays. But that might not be the preferred solution.

Customers can also wait for their original retail order to be scheduled. But if the order is unable to be scheduled for the 2022 model years, then the customer will have to convert their retail order to a 2023 Ford Maverick when the order bank re-opens later this summer.

We are currently unsure if Ford will honor a price guarantee for 2022 orders. But we hope it does.

Is the Maverick worth waiting for?

The 2022 Ford Maverick is worth waiting for if it’s the tiny truck of your dreams. Ford is still planning to provide a limited number of 2022 model yeat Maverick models for dealership stock. You may be able to find one at your local dealership, but it might have a high markup.

Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until 2023 to place an order. If you don’t want to wait, there are other options to consider. For example, the Hyundai Santa Cruz is the Maverick’s direct rival. It can tow up to 5,000 lbs, which is 1,000 lbs more than the Maverick can tow.

Also, the Toyota Tacoma is a reliable truck to consider. While it’s a mid-size option instead of a new compact truck, it’s still easy to maneuver in tight city areas. Plus, the Tacoma is incredibly reliable and maintains its resale value.
