The Ford Maverick has been so successful that Ford was actually forced to place a pause on orders, it has efficiency, stylish design, and a relatively comfortable ride. So, it does make sense that non-truck owners would be interested in buying this vehicle. More importantly, the 2022 Maverick is affordable. This pickup truck has a starting cost of around $20,000, and that places it closer to a compact car than a full-size truck in terms of pricing.

Additionally, the new Maverick rides on a unibody platform. Although this may sacrifice some capability and ruggedness, it makes for a more comfortable driving experience. Paired with the fact that the base engine is a hybrid, this small truck will likely continue to be a good seller.

The Ford Maverick is winning with non-truck buyers

According to Ford Authority, the Maverick compact pickup truck has been selling especially well with those who do not normally buy trucks. Reports from Ford show that around 70% of Maverick sales are coming out of non-truck segments. And, within the first three months of 2022, Ford sold 19,245 units of the Maverick. This means that it has outsold competitors like the Hyundai Santa Cruz.

In terms of which versions of the 2022 Maverick pickup truck are selling, the hybrid variant outperformed Ford’s estimates. Because of this, there is a backlog of customer orders, which has led to a pause on Maverick orders until August of 2022.

Why are Ford Mavericks so hard to get?

Like a lot of things today, the Ford Maverick has not been immune to supply chain issues and chip shortages. With a pickup truck as popular as the 2022 Maverick, this is an even bigger problem as the manufacturer attempts to keep up with demand. Orders should open up for the Maverick in August of this year. But, it is worth noting that these customer orders will be for the 2023 model year. 

Currently, Ford dealerships are still receiving new Maverick trucks. Buying at a dealership can still feel like a difficult task, these small trucks typically sit on the lot for only three or four days. This means that those interested have to act quickly in order to get their new Ford. Some consumers may notice that dealerships are also marking up the 2022 Maverick. California appears to be the highest impact of dealership markups on the Maverick, but it is happening elsewhere as well. Still, these problems are not stopping the interest surrounding this compact truck. Even among those who do not traditionally buy trucks.
