Uh oh, is the Ford Maverick’s bubble starting to burst? It’s been insanely popular since its debut. But now, people are starting to report 2022 Ford Maverick problems. There could be significant issues that you need to know about. 

Potential 2022 Ford Maverick problems 

So far, it’s been all gravy for the 2022 Ford Maverick. It generated more interest and demand than expected when the standard $20,000 hybrid model dropped. The 2022 model sold out instantly, and orders are being placed for 2023. 

However, a few drivers already got behind the wheel of their Ford Maverick models and started noticing some frustrating issues. 

Some people recommend never buying the first model year of a brand new truck, but the Maverick shares a lot of components with the Ford Escape and Ford Bronco Sport. It seems like things should already be worked out. 

Reported Maverick issues 

The 2022 Ford Maverick has already racked up three recalls. This doesn’t seem too bad compared to other options. For example, the 2021 Ford F-150 already has 11 recalls. 

One recall is due to the rear seat buckle not being properly attached. This isn’t bad mechanically, but it’s annoying. 

The second recall involves fuel tank issues. The fuel tank might have been damaged due to having holes drilled into it while the spay-in bed-liner was being installed. This could cause some bigger problems. 

The third recall is related to a software issue while towing trailers. The electric or electric over hydraulic brake system may not operate. 

According to Pickup Truck Talk, there are reports of the transmission shuddering and jerking when it switches from gas to battery mode. This could just be something to get used to, as the same thing can happen in the F-150 Hybrid, and it’s not a problem. 

Owners have complained about their paint chipping and their stickers being washed away during car washes. 

Also, the hood seems to be prone to fluttering in the wind (TBS 04-18-8), the radio freezing (SSM 50411), and the Ford Pass App remote start makes the engine run rich, causing the catalytic converter to get red hot (TBS 22-2141). 

Ford is aware of these issues, and there are corresponding Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) and Special Service Messages (SSM) for each of these problems. So, at least Ford technicians know how to correct these issues. 

How reliable is the 2022 Maverick? 

It’s a little early to determine how reliable the 2022 Ford Maverick is. Consumer Reports gave the Maverick a predicted reliability rating of three out of five, which is average. But it doesn’t have any detailed data available. 

The ranking is based on Ford’s brand history and information from similar models like the Ford Bronco Sport and Ford Ranger. Interestingly, Consumer Reports didn’t mention the Ford Escape. 

We will provide an update once an official reliability ranking is released. Until then, at least the Maverick has a good resale value. It’s expected to maintain 60 percent of its value after 60 months. 

So, if you have the Ford Maverick, and it turns out not to be your cup of tea, don’t worry. You should be able to get a good return when trading it in or selling it.
