The 2022 Ford Mustang Loses the Pony Pack for Something Less On-The-Nose
The Ford Mustang is an icon of American-made performance. It’s also known for its almost Porsche-esque amount of trims, options, and packages. Now, Ford has decided to drop one of the more on-the-nose packages for the 2022 Ford Mustang: The Pony Pack. Honestly, you’d be forgiven for never having heard of it. Basically, it’s an appearance package that doesn’t have any bearing on how the car drives save for one crucial thing.
Ford has decided they simply cannot live without one less visual pack for the Mustang, so they’ve also introduced a new one.
Ford drops the Pony Pack
First, the Pony Pack. Essentially, it’s a looks package that offers a few minor tweaks to the 2022 Ford Mustang. First and most noticeable is the “corral” around the famous Mustang logo at the front. Obviously, that’s a bit of a nod to ‘Stangs of old. Speaking of old, the Pony Pack still nets you some rather old-school-looking chromed-out wheels for your 2022 Ford Mustang.
These are really the only major change as far as performance goes. A larger wheel can sometimes mean a less forgiving ride, as there’s more wheel and less tire between you and the road. However, the Mustang’s excellent dampers should help out there. Those are certainly a must(ang) on any Ford Pony car, so the change isn’t too major. Finally, the Pony Pack got you some nice Mustang-branded stripes down the lower door sills.
How much is the 2022 Ford Mustang Coastal Pack?
But now that’s all gone, and replaced with the 2022 Ford Mustang Coastal Pack. However, it should be noted that the Coastal Pack will only be an option for the 2022 Ford Mustang EcoBoost. For those that don’t speak Mustang, that’s the four-cylinder version. That said, it does offer some changes that are categorically different from those of the now-dead Pony Pack.
First, you get a body-colored grille. Specifics are light on what this means, but it’ll be interesting to see how much color Ford lets onto the traditionally black nose seen on cars like the Mustang GT. Moving down the body, you’re also rewarded with some body stripes and side scoops, which will hopefully be more than fake vents. Finally, you’ll be getting a tweaked rear wing, but it’ll likely be more aesthetic than aerodynamic, per Ford Authority.
The Mustang is constantly evolving
The American muscle segment is still hyper-competitive, despite each of the big three muscle cars doing something completely different from one another. I mean, can you really say that the drag-strip-hungry Challenger competes with the Mustang as a sports car? As a result, Ford is constantly tweaking and changing the Mustang. Whether the Pony Pack remains dead and buried remains to be seen. Let’s hope the Coastal Pack can give some flare to the littlest Mustang.
