If you didn’t know, like its namesake, it also has a GT performance model capable of a bit more than the standard Mach-E. There’s plenty to like about the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, particularly something old, new, borrowed, and BlueCruise.

What makes something old? Features that haven’t been updated for a few years in the automotive industry are considered “old.” In particular, we’re talking about Ford’s Sync 4 infotainment technology. After releasing in 2020, Ford instantly began to use Sync 4 in most models. It’s widely considered one of the best infotainment systems in the industry. However, with the all-new GT Performance model of the Mach-E entering the lineup, we expected more new features for infotainment.

While every Ford Mustang Mach-E uses Sync 4, there’s not much new for 2022. We certainly didn’t expect the second model year of the Mach-E to incorporate an all-new infotainment system. Especially when Sync 4 is such an excellent option all around. However, some brand new features or significant updates would be fantastic. Maybe even a performance section specifically for the GT model, similar to Stellantis’ Uconnect system for the Dodge Challenger.

Something new

Despite only being in its second model year, the Mustang Mach-E and the GT model specifically have already received updates. For example, GTs now come standard with a black-painted roof. Additionally, the entire lineup now enjoys a better battery capacity, allowing for a more extended driving range without stopping for a charge.

Additionally, as with most vehicles, the price increases every year. For 2022, the Mach-E GT costs $63,095, and the GT Performance model starts at $66,095, according to Car and Driver. While the electric crossover isn’t flooded with brand-new items for 2022, we’re not surprised. You can expect a few new features to join the lineup annually during its first few years in production.

Something borrowed

You already knew where this was going. What did the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT borrow? Not only did it take the name Mustang from the classic sports car, but it’s also now taken the GT performance branding. For standard models, the GT name means there’s a bigger, faster engine underneath the hood. While that isn’t the same for the electric crossover variant, it’s a similar concept.

The standard version of the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E uses a standard-range 70.0-kWh battery pack. These feed power to the electric motors mounted on both rear axles. Together, they push the Mach-E to between 266 and 346 horsepower. Contrarily, the Mach-E GT comes with a 91.0-kWh battery pack, uses all-wheel drive, and creates 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque. According to Car and Driver, the GT Performance model can reach 60 mph in 3.7-seconds.

2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT BlueCruise

According to Road Show, the Mach-E electric crossover comes with Ford’s BlueCruise, a hands-free driving assist system. For $1,900, customers can purchase the Co-Pilot 360 Active 2.0 package, including Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 Assist 2.0 suite of driver aid technologies. BlueCruise is an SAE-certified Level 2 driver assistance system capable of handling steering, acceleration, and braking without a driver touching the wheel. However, BlueCruise requires that the driver’s eyes stay on the road while active.

In addition, the system only works in Ford’s Hands-Free Blue Zones, which consists of about 130,000 miles of highways and interstates. The automaker scanned these areas to ensure safety and capability for all vehicles equipped with BlueCruise. Lastly, the onboard cameras on every Ford vehicle with the hands-free driving system, like the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, monitor the driver’s head and eye position. This is just one of the ways Ford’s system monitors the driver to keep you safe since hands-free driving always requires human supervision.
