2022 Genesis Electrified GV70 Boasts 482 Horsepower
The 2022 Genesis Electrified GV70 was officially revealed at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China. As its name suggests, it is an all-electric version of the standard Genesis GV70 SUV. Genesis is making significant strides toward its goal of going completely electric over the next few years. The GV70 is the next Genesis vehicle in the lineup to get electrified after the G80 sedan.
2022 Genesis Electrified GV70 motors and power
The Genesis Electrified GV70 uses two electric motors combining for 482 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Unsurprisingly, that also makes the GV70 a pretty fast SUV. It can move from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.5 seconds, which is faster than a 2021 BMW 530e M-Sport (5.2 seconds), for instance. It does have a little bit of time to make up against the Tesla Model X, though, as it can go from 0-60 in just 3.8 seconds.
The GV70 uses the same 400V/800V multi-rapid charging technology as its smaller sibling, the GV60. It also shares the same tech with its distant relative, the Hyundai Ioniq 5. While using a 350 kW rapid charger, the GV70 can be powered from 10 percent to 80 in an impressive 18 minutes. A Tesla supercharger can take 30 minutes to an hour to fully charge, so the GV70’s time is very similar.
GV70 driving range and features
The 2022 Genesis Electrified GV70 can drive up to 400 km per charge, or 248 miles. Although that will be more than enough for most people, it isn’t quite as good as other electric SUVs. For instance, the Tesla Model X can drive 340-360 miles on a single charge. The GV70’s numbers are more than serviceable but will often fall short compared to other similarly-sized vehicles.
The new Genesis EV comes with a Disconnector Actuator System, which automatically connects or disconnects the motor and driveshaft based on driving conditions. An all-new e-Terrain mode will also be available along with an Active Noise Control Road system. Lastly, the Electrified GV70 has a Vehicle to Load feature that supports 3.6 kW of charge for owners to plug in electronics.
Is the 2022 Genesis Electrified GV70 different from the standard model?
The only significant difference visually between the Electrified and standard GV70 is the front grille. It’s a little bit different due to the fact it has to hide an EV charging port. The electrified variant does not have tailpipes, and under the hood, it does not have a massive gas engine and components.
According to CarScoops, the interior features changes like paddle shifters for regenerative braking. Also exclusive to the electrified model are a Boost button on the steering wheel and more eco-friendly materials. Not much more is different for looks, styling, and design in the EV.
The all-new 2022 Genesis Electrified GV70 comes with an impressive amount of power with its dual-motor system. It won’t be available for purchase until sometime in 2022 and will likely be a 2023 model. The standard GV70 starts at $41,000, so we expect the Electrified version to be a bit higher than that.
