2022 Genesis G70 vs. 2022 Audi A5: One Affordable Luxury Car to Rule Them All
The 2022 Genesis G70 has quietly crept onto the luxury car scene over the last few years. Suffice it to say, it’s now a major player. Unfortunately, that also means the new G70 will be held to higher standards against its competitors, like the 2022 Audi A5. It’s some stiff competition to be sure, but the Genesis certainly has one thing going for it.
That thing being value. So, now it’s a question of whether or not the Audi can compete with the Genesis from a value standpoint.
The 2022 Audi A5 isn’t off to a great start
If you want a 2022 Audi A5 that’s as fast as a 2022 Genesis G70, you’re going to have to shell out around $65,000 for a new Audi S4 (or S5) that makes 349 hp. And that still isn’t as much as the G70’s twin-turbo V6, which makes 365 hp for around $53,000. And the Genesis will have AWD to match the Audi.
Suffice it to say the A5 ain’t doing too well. However, that’s not to say the car doesn’t have its merits. Audi’s infotainment is the best in the business and has been for a while. As nice as the Genesis’ driving systems and interior are, they aren’t as good as Audi’s even if they do make less power.
Is the Genesis G70 fast?
Power isn’t everything, but even then, the 2022 Genesis G70 is fast as hell. It’s 3.3 liter V6 and AWD scoot it up to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. While the handling dynamics can’t match the Audi, at least according to KBB, they’re 99% of the way there. And for what is often thousands less depending on each car’s respective options.
The G70 pulls out another win over the Audi in the warranty department. By now, I’m sure you’ve heard about the Kia/Hyundai/Genesis 10 year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. Audi just doesn’t match those numbers. That said, we’re not sure how bad you’ll need that warranty, as the Genesis just hasn’t been around for long enough.
A 2022 Genesis G70 is an excellent luxury car
All in all, the 2022 Genesis G70 is the clear winner here. Despite the 2022 Audi A5 making case for itself with its chassis dynamics and frankly incredible interior and tech, the Genesis is simply too much of a value proposition to pass up. On top of that, you’re still getting a luxury car that’s 99% of the way to its rivals.
By the time Genesis nails the finer points, like the spongy brakes, the brand’s entire lineup will be cause for consideration when consumers look to the established German luxury brands. The Germans had better step up in a big way because Genesis has really hit their stride this year.
