The 2022 Genesis GV70 Has 5 Things You Need to Know
It’s time to learn about the 2022 Genesis GV70. You may not know what you’re missing out on with this new luxury crossover SUV. My week with the new Genesis GV70 hasn’t felt like enough time to get to know every aspect of this ride, but I found a few important takeaways.
Five things to know about the 2022 Genesis GV70
I’ve been spending the week with a 2022 Genesis GV70 AWD 3.5 Sport Prestige. While the GV70 starts at about $41,000. But with the Sport Advanced package and Sport Prestige package, the MSRP for the model I’ve been enjoying is around $64k.
The 3.5 is for the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine with 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. The base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder option with 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is highly recommended for an exceptional ride.
1. What is the Genesis GV70?
Friends and family members kept asking me what the 2022 Genesis GV70 is. I was even asked if it was a Porch Cayanne. So, the first thing to cover is the history of this SUV. It’s based on a luxury sportscar known as the Genesis G70.
It just arrived in 2022, so it is brand new. Genesis Motors is the luxury vehicle manufacturing division of the Hyundai Motor Group. The interior feels reminiscent of nicer Hyundai models. Only the luxury and sporty features are taken to the max.
2. We hope you like red
The interior in the Genesis GV70 model that I’m currently using is red. There is red leather everywhere. Red leather is on the door panels, center console, and around the dashboard. There’s even red accent stitching.
It’s pretty attractive. People sitting up higher in trucks definitely needed to check it out. But I grew a little tired of the bright red hue. If it’s not your thing, you can opt for blue, black, or beige instead.
3. The Genesis GV70 is spacious
For some reason, I thought the 2022 Genesis GV70 would be a little smaller, like a sports car. But the interior provides more than enough space. The massive leather seats will fit people of all shapes and sizes.
The rear seat provides plenty of space for adults too. Four people could take a trip comfortably with this SUV. You can access 28.92 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat with up to 56.86 cubic feet total.
4. The GV70 is thirsty
The Genesis GV70 isn’t the most fuel-efficient ride. If I could stop driving it in the Sport mode, I might do a little better on fuel. It gets an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city and up to 25 mpg on the highway.
I’ve been driving it around the mountainous area of Asheville, NC. There are steep curves and inclines everywhere. When I was trying to be more fuel-conscious, I averaged 22 mpg. But typically, I’ve been getting 20 mpg.
5. It has an electronic limited-slip differential
The Sport Prestige package in the 2022 Genesis GV70 includes an electronic limited-slip differential. Does that mean it can go off-roading? While the GV70 does come with standard all-wheel drive, I wouldn’t push it too hard in the wild.
It only has a ground clearance of 7.3-inches. Other options like the Subaru Crosstrek have at least eight inches of ground clearance. Also, the only off-roading driving mode is for snow. So, while it’s not the best for climbing over rocks, it won’t get stuck easily. The Genesis GV70 should handle snow, gravel, and other slippery conditions just fine.
