The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 had some early details slip before the official announcement. GM Authority managed to get some spy photos of a camouflaged Sierra 1500 early. Then with the official announcement of the new Chevrolet Silverado, we got a good idea of what is coming to the Sierra. General Motors’ two closely related trucks are likely to receive similar updates. On October 21st the official reveal of the new Sierra is happening, but on the 14th GMC posted an early teaser.

GMC teases the new GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate

The teaser from GMC’s Twitter page gives us a glimpse of the truck in the dark. Not much can be seen other than some lights and the general shape of the body. The automaker tells us to “get ready for the most advanced and luxurious pickup ever”. An exciting tagline and it sets us up with high expectations going into the October 21st official reveal. The ambitious words of GMC give us hope for a serious upgrade to not only the 2022 Sierra 1500, but other GMC truck models going forward. No offense to Chevy, but the official debut needs more and better updates than the Silverado received to really be “the most advanced and luxurious pickup ever”.

What can we see in the Sierra teaser?

Some of the truck’s exterior changes are immediately noticeable. The truck has a new grille and headlights, giving the front fascia a whole new look. Daytime running lights aren’t quite as C-shaped as previous model years in the video. The bumper looks to have more of a curve than it did, and a chrome accent wraps the entire front end.

Other smaller details and the interior are obviously impossible to make out. However, we know what to expect based on the Silverado reveal. It’s very likely the same new designs and technology will come to the GMC Sierra models. The Denali Ultimate, as featured in the teaser, will surely be the most decked out in technology and comfort features.

What to expect, based on the Chevy Silverado

The interior design and technology are being greatly improved and modernized for the new model year. Some technology the Silverado is adding includes a 13.4-inch infotainment system with Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster has also been added, making over two feet of screens across the front of the truck.

The Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system gives drivers hands-free operation on over 200,000 miles of roadway in the United States and Canada. Super Cruise can be used while towing as well, making long trips while towing as stress-free as possible. As for engine changes, the 4.3-liter V6 will likely be dropped for a 2.7-liter four-cylinder and 5.3-liter V8 option. A 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel is also available for the Silverado, which increases towing capacity to 13,300 pounds.

Most of the details for the Sierra models are purely speculation. The Silverado reveal gives us a taste of what’s to come, but we’ll need to wait until next week’s official debut to really get the details on the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500.
