Are the 2022 GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado the same?
There is a fair chance that the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will be pretty close to the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500. These two trucks have a history of sharing the same parts and features. They even share the same engine choices.
However, the Sierra 1500 tends to be more expensive than the Silverado because it’s considered a luxury truck. It’s known for including more luxury materials and features. The 2021 Sierra 1500 starts at $30,100, while the 2021 Chevy Silverado begins at $29,300.
What to expect with the 2022 Sierra 1500
The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will debut onOct 21, 2021. Like the new Chevy Silverado, the Sierra will feature an updated exterior styling. It could gain a slightly revised grille with new LED headlights.
Based on spy photos, the Sierra is expected to have new air curtains to improve its aerodynamics for better performance. This should reduce drag and improve fuel economy and ride comfort.
Only the Chevy Silverado LT and higher trims received a refreshed interior. The Sierra could gain a revised interior for each model. Spy photos reveal a brand new center stack layout with horizontal air vents and a massive infotainment screen.
It could be the same 13.4-inch touchscreen that was added to the Silverado. Other tech updates could include a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, Super Cruise technology, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration.
The GMC Sierra Denali trim is expected to include even more premium materials. It could be the only option with GM’s hands-free driving technology. It even works while pulling a trailer. You have to keep your eyes on the road for the system to work.
Will the new Sierra have more power?
Yes, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is expected to have more power. The Sierra is expected to have carryover engines which include the 2.7-liter four-cylinder, 4.3-liter V6, 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel, 5.3-liter V8, and 6.2-liter V8.
The 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine in the Silverado was enhanced to provide 420 lb-ft of torque instead of only 348 lb-ft of torque. Also, the V8 engines were dropped from the lineup. They could be cut for the Sierra. The turbodiesel Duramax got a towing upgrade from 9,300 lbs to 13,300 lbs.
We’re pretty excited to see what the 2022 Sierra AT4-X will have to offer. It will take off-roading a step further than the AT4 trim. It’s expected to include 33-inch tires, Multimatic spool-valve dampers, and electronically locking differentials in the front and rear.
The Chevy Silverado Z2R has a 2.0-inch lift and a high-mounted steel bumper. Plus, the Terrain Mode enables drivers to tackle off-roading challenges with a single pedal. It helps control the speed of the truck.
