2022 Harley-Davidson CVO Baggers: Big Twins and Big Flames
2022 Harley-Davidson CVO motorcycles article highlights:
- For 2022, the Road Glide Limited joins the Road Glide in the Harley-Davidson CVO program, complete with custom paint and Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-twin
- The 2022 Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide has the same kind of custom paint job, V-twin, safety features, and infotainment system as the Road Glides
- The most expensive CVO motorcycle is the Tri Glide trike
Although Harley-Davidson isn’t afraid of electrification, it’s also not abandoning its V-twins anytime soon. So, while it’s expanding the LiveWire sub-brand in 2022, Harley is pushing a new “Further. Faster” tagline, too. But while the electric LiveWire One and liquid-cooled Sportster S can certainly shift, nothing says ‘performance’ for many of the brand’s fans like a large-capacity pushrod V-twin. And that’s exactly what the new Harley-Davidson CVO (Custom Vehicle Operation) baggers are bringing for 2022.

As with previous CVO motorcycles, the main draw on the 2022 Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide and Road Glide Limited is the engine. It’s the largest-displacement V-twin Harley offers as well as its torquiest. Technically, the Pan America’s Revolution Max is Harley-Davidson’s most powerful engine, but the baggers aren’t designed for it.
Regardless, while the Milwaukee-Eight 117 is the main event, the 2022 Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide and Road Glide Limited have more to offer. Both offer hand-applied paint jobs—with and without flames—Fang front spoilers, and “most of [Harley’s] accessories catalog,” RevZilla says. So, they have a Rockford Fosgate audio system, Boom Audio 30K Bluetooth headset, and Boom Box GTS infotainment with navigation and Apple CarPlay. Also, both come standard with Harley-Davidson’s Cornering Rider Safety Enhancement. That means tire-pressure monitoring, hill-hold control, rear-wheel-slip control, and concerning-enhanced ABS and traction control.
Harley-Davidson considers the 2022 CVO Road Glide Limited its “ultimate touring machine,” RevZilla reports. As such, it has a few touring-focused extras that the non-Limited model doesn’t have. That means a top box for luggage, a dual-zone heated seat with a passenger pillion, and heated grips. Both CVO baggers have 21” front wheels, though, something no other Harley Touring bike offers. And like regular Road Glides, they have shark nose fairings and dual LED headlights.

One year after Harley-Davidson offered a limited-edition Street Glide, it’s back with another one. And just like the 2021 Street Glide Special, the CVO version has a hand-applied paint job and multiple accessories. However, the CVO Street Glide comes standard with the CERS features; they were optional on the Special. And of course, there’s that Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-twin.
As the highest trim in the 2022 Street Glide line, Harley-Davidson equips the CVO Street Glide well. In addition to an adaptive LED headlight, the bagger has Fugitive custom wheels, and a Rockford Fosgate Stage II audio system with saddlebag-integrated speakers. Also, its Kahuna heated grips match with its Kahuna Collection shifter, footpegs, muffler caps, and brake pedal cover. And like all Street Glides, it has a fork-mounted batwing fairing.
Plus, like the other 2022 CVOs, it has Boom Box GTS infotainment and a wireless headset. Also, the V-twin has a high-performance camshaft, exhaust, and air intake.

For those who want a bagger with some extra stability, Harley-Davidson offers the Tri Glide trike. And for those who want that stability with extra speed, there’s the CVO Tri Glide.
For 2022, the Harley-Davidson CVO Tri Glide gets all the other bikes’ bells and whistles: hand-applied paint, CERS, Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-twin, and touchscreen Boom Box GTS infotainment. And like the Road Glide Limited, the CVO Tri Glide has a dual-zone heated seat and heated grips.
Also, the CVO Tri Glide rocks a Rockford Fosgate Stage 1 audio system, all-LED lighting, and Tomahawk wheels. And like ‘lesser’ Harley trikes, it has a built-in trunk, batwing fairing, and reverse gear.
Will these tricked-out bikes be worth seeking out?
As of this writing, Harley-Davidson hasn’t released availability details for the 2022 CVO models. We also don’t know how many examples it plans to make, though it likely won’t be a lot.
Given that the cheapest 2022 CVO is almost $42K, some riders might balk at buying. And at almost $50K, the CVO Tri Glide is more expensive than the average new car. So, are they worth it?
Well, NADA Guides claims that “high-end…and exceptional custom paint jobs” can cost up to $15,000-$30,000. So, in that regard, the CVO baggers are arguably bargains compared to their lower-end versions. Plus, they come with several optional extras as standard.
However, if you can do without the paint job, the conventional versions offer roughly the same level of performance for $10,000-$15,000 less. And it’s worth noting the new Street Glide and Road Glide ST use the same Milwaukee-Eight V-twin but cost about $12,000 less. Though they don’t have custom-painted flames.
