Let’s be real. Even in the red color seen below, the 2022 Honda Accord doesn’t look like much. You drive past about 6,000 a day without realizing it. Maybe that’s the Honda sedan’s superpower. However, it’s best not to underestimate the Accord. After all, it is a Car and Driver 10Best contestant.

It’s not a club that’s easy to join. The legacy publisher’s “best ever” contest is a hard thing to get into, reserved only for, well, the best ever. Clearly, the boys and girls at C&D think the Accord is one such car. As is fitting of a cabal of car nuts, the publication touts the performance of the Accord at nearly every level. In a word, it’s quick.

The base LX trim and its 1.5L 4-cyl. get to 60 about as quick as you’d expect, around 6.6 seconds. However, add another half a liter and a turbo, and things get more interesting by about 1.2 seconds. That’s well into stick-shift VW GTI territory, and enough to make models from Audi flinch. The performance is all well and good, but the 2022 Honda Accord is more than just a mildly spicy sedan.

What makes the Accord a good car?

What makes the Accord so good, in our eyes and those of C&D, is the rest of it. A sedan in this category needs to be able to cover miles, and thankfully, the Accord can. Those seats look comfy from here, but the real star is the ride. For a car under $50,000, the 2022 Honda Accord out-rides every single one of its competitors. Commuting, or for that matter, doing anything is a breeze in the Accord.

Then there’s the interior. We already talked about the seats, but the tech in the Accord is a huge boon. Obviously, Carplay and Android Auto are present, and Honda’s current infotainment is never frustrating to use. This is a four-door, and the rear passengers aren’t an afterthought here. Legroom is plentiful, but some of that does eat into cargo space. Still, the Accord will move plenty of people and their things.

The Accord is due for a redesign

Really, the only bad thing C&D has to say about the 2022 Honda Accord is the looks. It’s nearly unnoticeable. The new model is due for a refresh. The current design dates back to 2017, and the looks haven’t changed much since then. The way we design cars is changing, and should Honda nail the looks of the new model, we’ll likely have a 10Best winner on our hands.
