Is the 2022 Subaru Legacy cheaper than the 2022 Honda Accord?

The 2022 Subaru Legacy is cheaper than the 2022 Honda Accord. If you want the base Legacy 2.5i, you’ll face a starting price of $24,490, depending on trim. However, to snag the famously dependable Accord, it will cost you a starting price of $27,615. The news doesn’t change at the top of the trim levels, either. 

If you want a range-topping Accord Hybrid Touring, it will cost a starting price of $38,685 before fees, registration, and insurance. If you want the top-of-the-line Subaru Legacy Touring XT, you’ll save about $1,000 on the starting cost compared to the Accord. 

How fuel-efficient is the Honda Accord?

The 2022 Honda Accord is much more fuel-efficient than the 2022 Subaru Legacy. The base Accord LX manages 30 mpg city and 38 mpg highway with its 1.5L inline four-cylinder engine. However, the Subaru Legacy 2.5i, with its larger engine, only accomplishes 27 mpg city and 35 mpg at highway speeds. 

It gets worse at the top of the trim ranges, with the Legacy’s 2.4L turbocharged thirst increasing to 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. Conversely, consumers can buy a 2022 Honda Accord as a hybrid, which will manage 48 mpg city and 47 mpg on the highway. Still, the turbocharged Legacy trims produce 260 horsepower, 10 more than the closest Accord trim, the Touring.

Does the Legacy have AWD?

The 2022 Subaru Legacy features standard all-wheel drive (AWD). That should be comforting for midsize car shoppers looking for a sure-footed option to tackle challenging road conditions. However, AWD isn’t a solution to all problems, and the type of tire on a vehicle can be just as important. Still, having a trustworthy AWD system available at all trim levels is a plus for the Legacy. 

Unfortunately, the 2022 Honda Accord doesn’t offer AWD, according to TrueCar. Instead, the Accord comes standard with front-wheel drive (FWD). 

Which car is safer: the Legacy or the Accord?
