The 2022 Honda Civic is yet another offering in a long line of Honda’s sensible sedans. However, many car shoppers today want all-wheel drive (AWD) in their choice of four-door vehicle. So, does the 2022 Honda Civic pack AWD? Also, what can you consider instead of the Civic?

Does the 2022 Honda Civic have AWD?

Unfortunately for fans of Honda’s sensible Civic, the four-door compact sedan doesn’t offer AWD in 2022. As a result, potential owners who live in difficult climates or remote areas might want to consider an alternative, like the Mazda3 AWD or the new 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE. Higher trims of the 2022 Honda Civic, like the Civic Touring, offer luxurious amenities like leather seats and wireless phone charging. However, no 2022 Honda Civic trim offers a hybrid or AWD platform.

Is the Civic front-wheel drive (FWD)?

While the lack of AWD might be disheartening for potential owners, the 2022 Honda Civic’s front-wheel drive (FWD) application doesn’t exactly make it treacherous on slippery roads. FWD tends to handle inclement weather and low-friction road conditions better than rear-wheel drive (RWD), which is popular on sedans like the Chrysler 300 and sports cars like the Mazda MX-5. Better yet, TrueCar says the little Civic offers Honda’s Sensing suite of driver-assist and active safety features, like automatic emergency braking.

Also, the 2022 Honda Civic and Civic Hatchback earned Top Safety Pick+ ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. That’s a rating that a comparable Mazda3 can boast, but the 2022 Hyundai Elantra cannot.

Does Honda make AWD cars?

Like the 2022 Honda Civic, the 2022 Accord neglects an AWD option. However, the larger Honda sedan offers four hybrid trims with fuel economy figures as high as 48 mpg in the city and 47 mpg at highway speeds. That’s more efficient than the smaller, more conventional Civic by ten combined average mpg, depending on the Civic’s trim level. Still, if you want a Honda vehicle with AWD, you’ll have to look at vehicles like the HR-V.

However, some of the Civic’s competition offers AWD for the 2022 model year. For instance, the Subaru Impreza offers standard AWD to conquer tricky commutes. Moreover, the Mazda3 offers optional AWD and sporty driving characteristics for potential owners who want a sharper sedan.

The 2022 Honda Civic AWD never came to be, despite market competition.

Should you buy a 2022 Honda Civic or an AWD alternative?

The 2022 Honda Civic rests on a well-earned reputation of reliability, sensibility, safety, and affordability. With top safety scores, nearly 25 cubic feet of cargo capacity in the hatchback, and a starting point of $23,645, the 2022 Civic is another excellent choice. However, the Civic isn’t alone in the compact car market.
