The long-awaited 2022 Honda Civic Si was finally debuted this morning by the Japanese marque. Headline specs are promising, with the inclusion of a manual transmission yet again. However, the model also leaves plenty of room for the new Civic Type R, which will be here any moment now.
That said, Honda hasn’t just gone and made little changes. VP of National Operations at Honda, David Gardner, says this new Si is “hands down the best Civic Si we’ve ever offered our customers.”

Right off the bat, things look good for the new Si. However, it has to be noted that we do lose the coupe bodystyle, not just from the Civic line, but the Si as well. For now, the only bodystyle we’ve seen in Si trim is the hatchback. Not that another VW GTI competitor is a bad thing. And boy, does the Honda Civic Si compete, especially with a manual transmission on the table.
Power is down a hair compared to a lot of newer hot hatches, at 200 hp, but a power deficit compared to the competition is practically a hot hatch calling card. There’s also some new luxury touches designed to keep the 2022 Honda Civic Si competitive, like wireless Carplay and Android Auto, as well as a premium Bose sound system.
How much is the new Civic Si?
Unfortunately, while the cover is finally off the new Civic Si, the pricing remains a mystery. We’ll call it a trade-off for the inclusion of the manual transmission for now. That said, our estimate comes in slightly above the old 2019 Civic Si, which came in at $26,195.
Expect pricing for the 2022 Honda Civic to start at $27,500 or so. That’s a good chunk of change to be sure. Knocking on the door of $30,000 places the 2022 Honda Civic Si in some dangerous territory to say the least. Just a few grand more puts you in the driver’s seat of both the GTI and Hyundai’s Veloster N.
The Si and its manual transmission leaves room for the Civic Type R
However, that gap exists for a reason. That reason is the 2022 Honda Civic Type R. It’ll also have a manual transmission, and, if the last model is anything to go by, 300+ hp and the best FWD in the business. Then, of course, Honda is also likely leaving room for a slightly pricier Acura Integra Type R (or Type S). However, we’ll have to see how all three of those cars shake out when press cars start reaching us. Stay tuned.
