Honda has finally given us a look at the 2022 Honda Civic Si. Well, sort of. Recently, the company showed off a camouflaged prototype of what will eventually become the 2022 Si. Only, this is the racecar version, and not the production one. Confusing, yes, but there’s a lot to learn about the new model from these images and videos.

This isn’t the first time Honda has been more than a little cryptic with the new Civic models. Remember those camo shots of the new Civic Type R?

Honda brings back the Si

Thankfully, this is in fact a 2022 Honda Civic Si that you can buy, should you wish. It’s just a race car instead. This particular Si is part of Honda’s HPD program (Honda Performance Development). The program is in much the same vein as Porsche’s 911 cup car program, albeit much cheaper.

Just as with the last-gen Si, race teams will be able to buy this Si soon to take racing. Usually, that means a host of Honda improvements to the car to make it more fitting for racing. The most obvious of those are the wheels and tires. The ones in the videos and images on this page are super-sticky Continental race tires. Based on a rough eyeball estimate, those tires are about 9 inches wide, much wider than would normally be seen on a stock Civic Si, or Type R for that matter.

The 2022 Honda Civic Si looks more extreme than ever

Obviously, there’s also the giant wing to contend with. Without having the two side-by-side, this wing looks much larger and more aggressive than the one we saw on the camo Civic Type R a while back. However, some stock 2022 Honda Civic elements have remained. For example, the stock car’s infotainment and dash are still visible. It’s possible this could change (dashes are heavy), as Honda has said this particular car is just for testing.

Finally, there’s those nostrils in the hood. Whether the new Civic Si will lean more towards race than street car remains to be seen, but those vents are a good indication, should they stay on the street production model. Ideally, the Japanese brand will be taking what they’ve learned on track and applying it to the production Civic Si, whose debut we can be expecting any day now.

How much will the new Si cost?

Unfortunately, we don’t have any pricing or hard numbers for the 2022 Honda Civic Si just yet. However, given the last gen’s $30,000 or so price point, we can expect the new model to fall roughly in line with that. That said, the cost of Civics has gone up, but not by much. Considering most lease their new cars, the difference will likely be negligible over a lease period. For now, all we can do is wait on Honda for more information on the new Civic Si.
