Honda has finally pulled the veil off the 2022 Honda Civic Si. It’s here, along with a host of new changes. So many in fact, we had to double down on coverage for the new model. Some of the changes are for the better, and some raise many a question about the new car’s place in the world of cheap performance cars.
Despite its refined looks, the new Si promises to deliver a pared-back hot hatch experience you can only get from a brand like Honda.

Things look good for the 2022 Honda Civic Si. For starters, 200 hp is still a lot, despite what the latest crop of 700+ hp supercars like the Mclaren 720s will tell you. Moreover, that 200 hp only has to move around 2,952 lbs. By today’s standards, that’s not a lot of weight. For reference, the 2022 GTI comes in at a portly 3,154 lbs.
Plus, you get to do the moving of that 2,900 lbs or so via a six-speed manual transmission. Honda is famous for making a particularly good feeling manual gearbox, so our hopes are high for this generation. What’s arguably better is Honda’s FWD system. It shocked the world in the Civic Type R, and reminded us all how fun a fast FWD car can be.
The Honda Civic Si is anything but boring
All that adds up to what promises to be a pretty special driving experience. However, Honda didn’t stop with the old recipe. Yet more changes have been made to the 2022 Honda Civic Si to make it a more engaging car. For starters, the stick gearbox now has a single-mass flywheel that’s 26% lighter than the old dual-mass unit. That should help negate some of the loss in response due to the turbocharging.
Notably, the 2022 Honda Civic Si also gains an electronic aid from the excellent Type R. You’ll now be able to have the car match your revs for you, a-la Nissan Z. While it’s certainly more fun to heel-toe yourself, the feature should be great for sitting about in traffic. Finally, peak torque shows up 300 rpm earlier, at 1,800 rpm. Again, that should help with engine response from the turbocharged unit.
How much will the new Civic Si cost
In short, that’s a lot of new stuff for an economy car. Unfortunately, Honda hasn’t told us how much the new Civic Si will run you. Given the last car’s roughly $26,000 MSRP, we expect the 2022 Honda Civic Si to cost right around $27,500 MSRP. We likely won’t have to wait long for a pricing announcement, as Honda plans to have units available for purchase just as soon as possible.
