2022 Honda HR-V vs. 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
The 2022 Honda HR-V is one of the most unpopular crossover models on the market today. The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has its problems as well. Which of these problematic crossovers is the better buy? Time for 2022 Honda HR-V vs. 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross.
The 2022 Honda HR-V is underpowered
The 2022 Honda HR-V is currently the worst Honda SUV available. It starts at $21,420. The HR-V is underpowered compared to other Honda models. It uses a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 141 horsepower.
The HR-V gets 28 miles per gallon in the city and 34 miles per gallon on the highway. Other than being underpowered, it also has a poor ride quality. The HR-V is noisy as well. To top it off, its all-wheel drive option slows the lethargic crossover down even more.
The HR-V is easily one of the worst crossover models on the market, along with the Toyota C-HR. According to CNN Business, the HR-V was one of the least-safe SUV models it tested, along with the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. It did especially poorly in side-impact crash tests.
The HR-V’s best qualities are its affordable price and decent gas mileage. There are plenty of drivers who should avoid the HR-V for safety reasons, and frankly, there are plenty of better crossovers on the market within the same price range like the Hyundai Kona or Kia Soul.
The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is too basic
The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross starts at $24,890. Despite having a more expensive starting price than most of its rivals, it offers much less value. The Eclipse Cross uses a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 152 horsepower. Like the HR-V, the Eclipse Cross provides an underwhelming ride.
It gets 26 miles per gallon in the city and 29 miles per gallon on the highway. The Eclipse Cross may have a modern exterior, but its interior is basic, especially compared to superior models like the Mazda CX-30. Despite having a more refined interior and better standard tech features, the CX-30 is still more affordable than the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross.
2022 Honda HR-V vs. 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
When it comes to the 2022 Honda HR-V vs. 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, both these subcompact SUV models are at the bottom of their vehicle class. Neither offer great value for their price or outdo their competitors enough to be noteworthy. The HR-V has fundamental design flaws that make it one of the least-safe SUVs available today. The Eclipse Cross is expensive compared to rivals but offers little to justify its price.
Ultimately, there are several better alternatives to either of these vehicles. The Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona, and Kia Soul all provide more value. The HR-V wins this small SUV battle because of its superior fuel economy and tech features.
