Although the 2022 Honda Ridgeline has received consistent praise from critics, that praise has not translated into successful sales numbers. So far in 2022, Honda has sold under 25,000 Ridgeline units. This puts Honda’s truck behind the sales of other mid-size pickups, and that is sort of confusing. The 2022 Ridgeline comes standard with all-wheel drive and a V6 engine. So, why does it seem like no one is buying this small truck?

Why don’t people buy the Honda Ridgeline?

There might be a few reasons why truck buyers steer away from the 2022 Ridgeline. It is a unibody truck, which takes away some of the capability of a traditional truck. Additionally, Honda’s mid-size truck is fairly expensive. This pickup can easily climb over $40,000 in terms of pricing. 

Plus, the Ridgeline is not as off-road friendly as other pickups. There is the available HPD package, but nothing quite like something such as the FX4 Off-Road package that you can get with a Ford truck. 

Is the 2022 Ridgeline a good truck?

If you do not need all of the capability offered by a full-size truck, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline is a decent option. It comes standard with AWD and a V6 engine that makes 280 horsepower. Other mid-size trucks will make you pay extra for that. 

Better yet, the Ridgeline can tow up to 5,000 pounds and haul a respectable amount as well. That might not be as much as other pickups, but the Ridgeline has a fairly comfortable ride thanks to its unibody construction.

Another exciting feature offered by Honda’s mid-size truck lies in its bed. Honda has made an in-bed audio system available, and that will turn your truck’s bed into a giant speaker.

Should you buy a mid-size truck?

Not everyone needs a big truck, and that is where smaller pickups come in. As a mid-size truck, the 2022 Ridgeline is a good mix of practicality and utility. This truck is based on the Honda Pilot, which has proved itself as a fairly popular crossover.

Mid-size trucks often offer more efficiency than their larger counterparts. Plus, it’s easier to navigate tight spaces in urban environments. 

Don’t overlook the 2022 Honda Ridgeline

The Honda Ridgeline might not be the most popular mid-size truck, but that does not mean it should be overlooked. According to Good Car Bad Car, Honda sold 41,355 Ridgeline trucks in 2021. Is that an indication of a bad truck, or just a signal that the Ridgeline does not have what truck buyers are looking for? According to critics, the Ridgeline is decent enough. But that seems to be a disconnect from what folks are actually spending their money on. 

For 2022, Honda has made only minor changes to its mid-size pickup. These include things like a new paint option which is fairly attractive. If Honda wants to sell more Ridgelines, perhaps a reevaluation is needed. That way, more shoppers take notice of this V6 truck. Ultimately, that decision is up to Honda.
