The SUV has replaced the minivan as the go-to car for families, and with the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5, the Japanese car manufacturer is giving them something to look forward to. While this transition happened long ago, manufacturers continue to bring innovation that lets families get to school and work with modern designs, plenty of room, and easy operation. Because of this, Cars.com recently announced the 2022 IONIQ as one of the best family crossover SUVs.

Every IONIQ model has something different to bring to the table. The SE starts at $43,650 as a fast-charging SUV with 19″ alloy wheels, a 12″ touchscreen, and a digital instrument cluster for easy access. While not a bargain vehicle, it offers plenty of exciting features to justify its price. However, the IONIQ line has plenty of options for everybody willing to pay the fee.

The $45,900 adds Full LED headlights, H-Tex leatherette seats, a hands-free smart liftgate, and wireless device charging to keep your phone charging while your car is on the road. Add a few grand to that price tag, and you get the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Limited trim. For $50,600, you get a vision roof, premium HUD with augmented reality, a blind spot monitor, and remote smart parking assistance.

No one can go wrong with any of these options. They all get 303 miles of all-electric range and a 168 kW, 225 hp motor to keep your car running without the high gas bill. Several major publications, such as Cars.com, are on board with the IONIQ as one of the best family SUVs on the market.

The IONIQ 5 gets high praise

Smaller SUVs can sometimes feel cramped despite their roomy promise. This is not the case with the IONIQ 5. Cars.com praised the car for being family-friendly. They noted how it favorably compares to the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 when it comes to the space inside. Furthermore, they loved the room behind the backseat and said it’s up there with the Tesla Model Y—even when the seats are entirely slid back.

With no front console, bags, backpacks, briefcases, and sports equipment fit right between the driver and the passenger—a luxury for large families. On top of this, the retractable sunshades and a moonroof help you adjust to the time of day and the climate of the road. The car is also equipped with 120V outlets in the backseat as a must-have for long road trips.

Overall, the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ is the ideal ride for small-to-midsized families. It’s comfortable, spacious, feature-laden, and safe. However, the upcoming IONIQ 7 might be even better for those with more kids and space needs.

The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 7 will help large families

The 2024 IONIQ 7 isn’t even out yet, but it’s already making waves for families. While the complete information is not yet available, the IONIQ 7 is expected to have 308 hp underneath its hood and over 300 miles of range per charge. With three rows, as opposed to the IONIQ 5’s two, the car will fit large families and was designed to do just that.

SUVs boast a broad scope of possible uses, but there’s a reason they have become the go-to car of families everywhere. As the car world moves toward electricity, families can expect more cars that fit their needs without sacrificing the performance that, until recently, mainly ran on gasoline. As more information and models come up, don’t be surprised if the IONIQ 5’s stature within the industry grows taller with every innovation.
