The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is easily one of the best electric vehicles on the market today. The electric SUV combines practical range and a spacious interior with engaging driving dynamics and innovative tech. Best of all, the Ioniq 5 is incredibly affordable, especially if you factor in the EV tax incentive.

The Ioniq 5 electric SUV starts at $39,950. Its price is closer to $32,450 after the EV tax credit. The Ioniq 5 comes in four different trim levels. The Ioniq 5 Limited is the final trim level. It starts at $51,100 or $43,600 after the incentive.

The Ioniq 5 Limited comes standard with features like a Blind-Spot Monitor, a huge glass panel covering the roof called the vision roof, and a premium heads-up display that uses augmented reality technology. If any electric SUV on the market is a Mustang Mach-E killer, it’s the Ioniq 5 (from a value standpoint).

The Ford Mustang Mach-E got tons of great press last year because of how innovative the electric muscle car-esque EV was. On paper, the Mustang Mach-E is about as good as an electric Mustang SUV can get. It’s quick, practical, and comfortable. The reality is that the electric SUV is experiencing quite a few bugs.

The most recent Mach-E bug forced Ford to postpone sales of the electric SUV entirely. Ford Mustang Mach-E electric SUVs could accelerate or decelerate without warning or become completely immobile because of the recent software bug. According to Road Show by CNET, over 48,000 Mach-E models are being recalled because of this bug.

While a software patch can be applied over the air, this recall isn’t the best look for the Blue Oval. The Mach-E sat securely atop electric SUV ratings last year in most categories, but recent bugs have become quite the slippery slope. It’s the perfect time for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 to swoop in as an affordable alternative.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the best electric SUV of 2022 thus far by a long shot. Competitors like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y keep taking hits in terms of pricing and reliability issues. The Volkswagen ID.4 is doing well globally, but it hasn’t become as ubiquitous as other electric vehicles in America.

There’s still time for the Mustang Mach-E to recover from its recent recall and have a great sales year, but can it catch up to the Ioniq 5? We’ll just have to wait and see as the months wind down.
