The Hyundai Palisade debuted for the 2019 model year, competing with its beloved cousin, the Kia Telluride. The Palisade even shares a platform with the wildly popular “Selluride” and has quickly gained its own notoriety. This stylish midsize SUV boasts a punchy engine, luxurious details, and a spacious, comfortable interior.

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade looks much the same as the 2021 version. However, some interior features make this crossover an even better value for the new model year.

Powertrain and fuel economy

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade uses the same powertrain as the previous year, a 291-hp V6 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Drivers can program it with four drive modes (or five for all-wheel-drive models) and enjoy using the paddle shifters. TrueCar says the Palisade’s fuel economy is only average, rated for 19/26 mpg city/highway at best.

Although the Palisade is quiet on the highway, the engine doesn’t feel overly powerful when passing other vehicles. Likewise, the drive isn’t as engaging compared to rivals like the Ford Explorer. However, the Palisade is a great cruiser that keeps its composure even around tight corners. The ride is also seldom bothered, especially with the available auto-leveling suspension.

Interior features

As for the interior, the 2022 Hyundai Palisade takes styling cues from its luxury brand sibling, Genesis. Nappa leather seating comes standard on the Limited and Calligraphy trims, as does ventilation in the cabin seats. The interior also boasts leather door inserts and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. These two top trim levels also get 20-inch wheels instead of the standard 18-inch variety on the lower trims.

Even the base-model Palisade SE trim still feels luxurious by class standards, with adequately supportive cloth seats.

Like previous models, the 2022 Hyundai Palisade provides room for up to eight riders, though the third row could be too tight for some adults. However, it’s as supportive as the other two rows and is easy to access.

It also comes with a flat-folding third row and 60/40 split-folding second-row seatbacks. In total, the Hyundai Palisade boasts over 86 cubic feet of cargo space.

TrueCar says the second-tier Palisade SEL offers the most value, starting at $36,725. This trim allows buyers to access premium leather seating through an optional package. Another bundle provides even more safety features, convenience tech, and heated second-row seats.

The biggest changes to the 2022 Hyundai Palisade

This 2022 Hyundai Palisade is arguably the safest model yet, thanks to its added driver assists. Every Palisade trim now comes with rear-cross traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring. The standard safety suite also includes forward-collision warning, lane-keep assist, driver attention monitoring, pedestrian detection, and rear parking sensors.

The Palisade Limited adds front parking sensors, a head-up display, and a 360-degree parking camera.

And although not technically a safety feature, the two top trims also come with a driver intercom. Drivers can project their voice over the radio to the backseat passengers without getting distracted from the road.

Is the 2022 model safer than the 2021?

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, the highest honor from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Even the base model received the highest rating on all of its crash tests. The headlights are among the best in the segment. In fact, the competing Kia Telluride got only a Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS due to its poor headlights on some trims.

The only area where the 2021 Palisade scored less than perfect was child seat installation ease. Regardless, the better-equipped 2022 Hyundai Palisade will likely also win Top Safety Pick+ when the IIHS has completed testing.
