In terms of the SUV segment, plug-in hybrids are a fairly exciting prospect. Not only do you get the power and practicality of a traditional combustion engine, but you also get the benefits of having some electric range. And that is ideal for those who are not quite ready to make the full leap into an EV. If that is the case for you, Hyundai has the answer through the 2022 Santa Fe PHEV. This plug-in hybrid has a solid mix of value and comfort, which helps keep it competitive when it comes to its rivals.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV?

The Hyundai Santa Fe is not new in the world of SUVs, but the PHEV model marks a modernization of this model. As the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and its corporate cousin the Kia EV6 go on sale, some buyers may not be ready for an EV. And the 2022 Santa Fe PHEV is a good compromise.

This SUV uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that makes 178 horsepower and 195 pound-foot of torque. According to AutoBlog, it also benefits from an electric motor that pumps the power to 261 hp. And for such a small engine, that is pretty impressive. All while retaining the efficiency you would expect from a small displacement powerplant.

Additionally, the 2022 Santa Fe PHEV comes standard with all-wheel drive. This feature is sure to be appreciated by those who have to deal with winter driving or who just want more peace of mind while behind the wheel.

How expensive is the Santa Fe PHEV?

In terms of cost, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV starts at $40,000. So, it doesn’t seem fair to call this a budget-friendly vehicle, but it is worth noting that federal tax credits are available for those who buy one. Plus, this version of the Santa Fe has up to 30 miles of all-electric range, which should be enough for short drives in the city or a run to the grocery store depending on your location.

Hopefully, as time goes on, this SUV will see sales in more locations. Allowing the public to see the benefits that it offers.

Is buying a PHEV worth it?

Plug-in hybrids have become a popular segment for many buyers. From Hyundai to Toyota, multiple brands have begun to offer this kind of powertrain on popular models like the Santa Fe PHEV and RAV4 Prime.

Typically, these versions do command a premium over the standard model. But, you get added efficiency, performance, and frankly the cool factor of being able to drive without having to fill up at the pump if you stay within the all-electric range.

At $40,000 before options, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV is not the cheapest SUV on the market. Through its interior quality and features, that price tag might be justified for some. Just make sure you live in one of the states where it is actually being sold.
