Hyundai has had a great start to 2021. While the brand might not currently be on your radar, maybe the 2022 Hyundai Tucson will change that. Can it hold its own against popular SUVs like the Honda CR-V? Only time will tell, but we think the Tucson is worth checking out.

Is Hyundai Tucson worth buying?

Consumer Reports reviewed the fourth-generation Tucson SUV and had positive things to say about it. The Tucson has all of the required features you expect in a new SUV. It also has a turbocharged hybrid version coming out with an estimated range of 32 miles.

The SEL all-wheel-drive model gets 187 horsepower from the 2.5L four-cylinder engine. It comes with an eight-speed transmission. With the added convenience package, the price of this 2022 Tucson came out to $31,969.

The Tucson Limited has an all-wheel-drive platform. With the same engine, the Limited trim was priced around $37,285 total. The hybrid version of the Limited trim had a little more power. The 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid engine got 226 horsepower. That was priced just a bit higher at $38,535.

Depending on which model suits your needs more, it seems you can get everything you want for under $40,000. Don’t be afraid to upgrade some of the optional safety features, either. We think the upgrades will come in handy for resale value.

Is the Hyundai Tucson reliable?

As with any new car, the Hyundai Tucson should be a fairly reliable choice for the first few years. One of the stipulations of this is that you regularly maintain your new SUV.

The Tucson has upgraded technology features and designs for the 2022 year. Forward collision warning, emergency braking, pedestrian detection and rear seat monitor are included.

There are some features like adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic warning, and a new remote parking automation feature that are optional.

If we put the Tucson up against a driver-favorite like the Honda CR-V, the two are fairly evenly matched. The Honda CR-V is a well-priced SUV that has many standard safety features. The CR-V is on the Affordable Compact SUVs list, but we feel the Tucson will make the list too.

Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis report record sales in March 2021

According to Automotive News, both Hyundai and Kia had quite the month. In March, volume rose 47% to 66,523 units sold. That was a 16% rise for the quarter. For Hyundai, volume rose an astonishing 115%. That was an increase to 75,403 units sold.

The Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride have seen an increase in popularity lately, which could account for some of the sales spike.

For the quarter, Hyundai sales rose 28%. In addition to that, Hyundai’s Genesis brand rose 108% in sales volume. That staistic means 8,222 units sold. Not bad for three sedans in the lineup.

Will this trend carry over into the second quarter? That depends if production can keep up.
