The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is getting a whole new look, and frankly, it’s awesome. Regardless of the new Tucson, there is an even gnarlier (looking) one in the works across the pond. The crossover is getting added to the N-Line group. However, unlike the Hyundai Veloster N, Elantra GT N-line, and Kona N, the Tucson won’t be getting any of the go-faster bits. 

Will the Hyundai Tucson N-Line be faster? 

Not at all. Unlike the other two N cars, the Tucson will not get any extra power, upgraded suspension, brakes, anything. It will only look cooler. This is a bit of a bummer considering the other mates in the hot lineup. 

MotorTrend reports, the Veloster N boasts 275 hp from the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four. The normal Veloster only makes 201 in its best configuration. It is the same story as the Elantra GT N-Line. It has a 1.6-liter turbocharged I-4 good for 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. This is an increase of 54 hp. This is what we have come to expect from the N cars. 

The Tucson N-Line will have the same 190-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder as the regular Tucson, according to MotorTrend. It will come in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Again, unlike the others, we get no turbo or snarling exhaust. 

So what do you get in the Tucson N-Line?

Hyundai gave the new dressed-up Tucson a new grille and a slightly different rear bumper. Hyundai also gave it a skid plate (for some reason) and a lower air intake for cooler air. Some other odds and ends have been added, like fancier wheels, color-matching wheel arches, and a little roof spoiler. These things are cool, and all but it feels like (a less intense verison) getting an M series BMW and it performing the same as a 325.

I mean, there’s more but…

The “hot” Tuscon gets suede covering the same old seats that come in the normal 2022 Hyundai Tucson. It also has some fancy red stitching throughout the cabin. Again this red stitching, wheel arches, and exhaust tips all look sportier, but it just isn’t. If only this thing were taking the path of the Hyundai Kona N. 

The Kona N brings some real spice to the party. It is set up with a verison of the 2.0-liter turbo that comes in the Veloster N. According to MotorTrend; this will most likely be detuned to 245 hp or so. Even still, this is a not little SUV that is noticeably more exciting than the standard version. I can see that the Tucson N-Line is nicer and better equipped than the regular model, but it isn’t more exciting. I just don’t see the play there, Hyundai. 

The Tucson has upgraded safety and driver technology

The infotainment screen dominates the dash at a whopping 10.25 inches. The Tucson also has automatic high beams, forward collision warning, Apple CarPlay,  and Android Auto as standard on the fancy trim. As MotorTrend notes, we only have the European spec so far. It is unlikely that the U.S. version will be much, if, any difference at all. Pricing for the faker hot SUV is also missing, but MT suspects that it will likely be around the $31,000 mark.
