2022 Infiniti QX60 Review: A Classy Three-Row SUV With Minor Flaws

The 2022 Infiniti QX60 is a luxury three-row SUV that competes with heavy hitters like the Lexus LX600 and the Acura MDX. It also rivals German competitors like the Audi Q7 and BMW X7, but it needs a little more refinement to go toe-to-toe with them. Regardless, we were thoroughly impressed with the QX60’s on-road manners and creature comforts. We found it a classy competitor in its segment with only a few minor flaws.
What’s new on the 2022 Infiniti QX60?
After taking a one-year hiatus for the 2021 model year, the Infiniti QX60 is back for 2022 with a ground-up redesign. It boasts a bold new look on the outside and a more premium cabin filled with luxurious features that you would only expect on a more expensive vehicle. Under the hood, the V6 engine remains that same, but the CVT was ditched in favor of a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Which Infiniti QX60 trim is right for you?
Choosing the right 2022 Infiniti QX60 trim level is easy as there are only four trim levels to choose from. Here is a breakdown:
- Pure: $47,875
- Luxe: $53,925
- Sensory: $57,375
- Autograph: $61,375
If you want a QX60 with all the luxurious amenities, but don’t want to pay for the top Autograph trim, then we recommend the Sensory trim level. It comes standard with massaging front seats, heated second-row seats, an air purifier, wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay, and a 17-speaker Bose audio system. An all-wheel drivetrain can be added to each trim for an extra $2,000.
Our tester for the week was a QX60 Autograph AWD with an as-tested price of $65,645.
How does the 2022 Infiniti QX60 drive?
The 2022 Infiniti QX60 drives smoothly at every speed and is extremely easy to handle despite its large size. We drove it around the city, on the highway, and through the mountains and came away extremely impressed with its serene cabin. Even at highway speeds, there wasn’t much wind noise detected. However, the ride quality could have been smoother as road imperfections, and large bumps could easily be felt at speed – most likely due to the larger 20-inch wheels.
Otherwise, we liked the 3.5-liter V6 and its 295 hp on tap. That power was more than adequate when pulling onto the highway and passing other cars. However, we did detect some power loss at higher altitudes.
When driving at a higher elevation, we had to floor the throttle more to get up inclines. But the powertrain was smooth when downshifting the new 9-speed transmission. We’re glad the CVT is a thing of the past. Otherwise, the QX60 would have felt much slower on the mountain stretches. Regarding braking, the QX60 could use better brakes as the pedal felt soft when braking on declines.
The visibility out of all four corners is exceptional and the power-adjustable seats made for the perfect driving position. Also, the seat massagers come in handy on long road trips.
The QX60’s engine is powerful and efficient
There’s only one engine choice for the 2022 QX60, but it’s a good one. The 3.5-liter V6 produces 295 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque, which is enough to tote around the 4,600-pound SUV with ease. It’s also powerful enough to tow up to 6,000 pounds and achieve up to an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. In our week of testing with mixed driving conditions, we achieved an average of 22.1 mpg, which is pretty good for a three-row SUV.
Is the Infiniti QX60 comfortable?
The interior of the Infiniti QX60 is a very comfortable place to spend time, even if that time is spent in traffic on a mountain road. There’s plenty of room in the two front seats with a lot of head clearance for drivers over six feet tall. The leather interior is plush and soft, with plenty of quilted leather all over the cabin, including the dashboard.
There is also a lot of room for the two passengers in the second row. The captain’s chairs are comfortable and recline for even more comfort. There are even HVAC controls, cupholders, and heated seats for a customized rear-seat experience. Some of the luxuries extend to the third row as those seats are also covered in leather. There’s also a cupholder on each side in addition to a USB port.
The Infiniti QX60 is up to speed with technology and connectivity
According to Car and Driver, “Infiniti is mercifully putting its aging dual-screen infotainment setup out to pasture with the QX60’s redesign.” It’s a relief, considering we didn’t like our infotainment setup in the Infiniti QX55. Fortunately, the QX60 now uses a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivity.
Underneath the touchscreen is the HVAC control panel that uses haptic touch controls as opposed to real buttons. The panel looks sleek and high-tech, but its functionality takes some getting used to as the “buttons” need to be pressed hard to function. Truthfully, Infiniti could have just used hard buttons instead.
There is also a 12.3-inch digital instrument display available on the higher trim levels in addition to a 10.8-inch head-up display. Every QX60 comes with a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 17-speaker Bose audio system is optional but highly recommended.
How does the Infiniti QX60 compare to the Acura MDX?
The 2022 Infiniti QX60 compares well with the 2022 Acura MDX. Both three-row SUVs were redesigned for the 2022 model year, have luxurious interiors, and are powered by V6 engines. The MDX, however, comes with a few more standard features like a wireless phone charging dock. It also has sportier handling characteristics but costs more than the QX60.
There’s also a performance variant in the form of the MDX Type S, which boasts a 355-hp engine and more athletic underpinnings. The QX60 does not have such a variant.
