2022 Jeep Compass Limited 4×4: Our 3 Favorite Features and 1 Downside
Are you interested in the newest Jeep SUV on the market, such as the newly redesigned Jeep Compass? Check out some of the positives found while testing the 2022 Jeep Compass, such as the off-road capability, modern interior, and ideal size.
The 2022 Jeep Compass SUV delivers on style
When testing our 2022 Jeep Compass Limited 4×4, the interior significantly improved over previous years. Jeep put a lot of thought into the inside and style of the 2022 Compass. Most surfaces are soft-touch and feel more like a luxury SUV instead of a Jeep. It looks more fresh and modern, especially with the new infotainment system.
Stellantis says the 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment center stack display offers drivers all the necessary technology in an updated package. It will offer over-the-air updates, so drivers don’t have to go into the dealership for additional features. “Uconnect 5 brings flexibility that will allow the system to continuously evolve to offer new content, features, and connected services.”
The new Jeep Compass tackles off-roading with ease
The 2022 Jeep Compass has a variety of trim levels to suit many needs. The tester we received was the Limited trim with 4×4 capability, but the Trailhawk trim is excellent for off-roading. It offers a low crawling gear ration and something called rock mode, which allows the Compass Trailhawk to perform well off the beaten path.
Car and Driver has more on that:
“Rock mode, which keeps the Compass in first gear and directs torque only to the wheels that can find grip. The Compass feels more agile than its tall, boxy profile would suggest, responding ably to inputs from the nicely weighted steering wheel.”

While most Compass drivers will probably spend more time on the road than off-road, that doesn’t mean it isn’t capable of handling the trails.
The new exterior looks more like a mini Jeep Cherokee
Looking at the Jeep Compass, it is kind of the perfect size. It is bigger than the compact Renegade SUV but smaller than the Jeep Cherokee. It competes in the world with the Mazda CX-5 and Toyota RAV4 but offers buyers the Jeep brand that so many are looking for.
While the Jeep Cherokee might have more off-road capability, it is also bigger and more expensive. The 2022 Jeep Compass gets the job done in a more compact and less costly package, making it more attainable for people.
The one downside is the lack of space for car seats
The Compass might not be the right SUV if you have younger children who require car seats for everyday drives. We used a Graco Highback Turbobooster car seat and a Recaro Performance RIDE seat in the test performed. Both of these are front-facing seats, so potential buyers might want to test rear-facing seats if that is what you usually use.
The car seats were a bit tight in the back seat and didn’t leave enough room for the driver and passenger. This won’t be an issue if you don’t have to install multiple car seats. However, it is worth noting for those with a larger family.
For now, give the 2022 Jeep Compass a try if you are in the market for a new SUV. It might give you a reason to go off-roading on your next weekend getaway.
