The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee has finally been revealed, and its attributes are plentiful. Perhaps at the top of the list is the availability of a hybrid Grand Cherokee, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. This partially electric powertrain will allow drivers to keep their beloved Grand Cherokee SUVs while making the transition to a hybrid SUV. So what will the range be on the plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee, and will its new two-row layout help it to go longer than a three-row SUV would have?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2 Row hybrid SUV will have a powerful engine

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe will come standard with four-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine. According to Car and Driver, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe will also have two motors which together will be able to produce 375-hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.

You can control how you’ll use your engine by accessing its controls through the infotainment system. This is Jeep’s latest system, and it’s called Uconnect 5. Besides controlling the SUV’s engine, the Uconnect 5 system allows the driver to access Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, among other features.

The 4xe will have three E Select modes

If you can’t decide between using gas, battery, or a combination of both, you don’t have to with the new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. It offers three E Select modes designed to give you some flexibility in choosing how you want your SUV to operate. These modes include Hybrid, Electric, and eSave.

The Grand Cherokee 4xe will be able to get 25 mpg and 57 mpge. It will also be able to travel up to 25 miles on just its battery. If you combine driving modes, the new hybrid Grand Cherokee will be able to travel a combined 443 miles.

When you’re operating in Hybrid mode, your Grand Cherokee will first draw from the battery. Once it’s used the battery, or when it needs a little more oomph, the hybrid Grand Cherokee will go to the fuel-powered engine.

In Electric mode the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe will only use the battery unless the driver indicates that they need more power. And in the eSave mode, the Jeep will first use the engine, saving the battery for later.

The new Grand Cherokee 4xe 2-Row SUV is smaller; does that help its range?

According to Motor1, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is 11 centimeters shorter than the three-row Grand Cherokee L, and its wheelbase is five inches less. However, its storage space and passenger space is increased, yet that doesn’t add much to the weight.

In fact, the hybrid Grand Cherokee is lighter than the Grand Cherokees before it, and that’s helping it get the range that it’s getting. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe weighs approximately 350 pounds less than non-hybrid models before it. The lighter a hybrid or electric vehicle is, the farther it can travel on a single charge.

So if you’re in the market for a new hybrid or electric SUV, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe might be just what you’re looking for. It’s got everything that people have loved about the Jeep Grand Cherokee for years, and it’s updated for today’s world. Plus, with Jeep committing to making an electric version of every one of their SUVs by 2025, you’d be a leader in their transition. And if nothing else, that would be a lot of fun.
