Forget tall, dark, and handsome. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Black Package makes this family-sized Jeep lang, dark, and handsome instead. Since we saw the Grand Cherokee L with the Black Package at the Chicago Auto Show, we’ve been obsessed. 

According to Auto Blog, you can get the Black Package for an extra $1,695. It comes with a black seven-slot grille, roof rails, mirror caps, badging, and 20-inch wheels. But exterior looks are all you get. No interior or performance upgrades are included. 

The trim is tied to four-wheel drive and it’s only available with the Limited trim. This is a little odd, but the Limited trim falls in the middle of the lineup. It’s above the Laredo and Altitude trims but below the Overland and Summit. 

So, the Black Package feels a bit restrictive but still looks great. You can order it from Jeep now. If you already want the Limited trim, why not make it look even better? 

2022 Grand Cherokee L: What’s new? 

Aside from the new Black Package, there aren’t many changes for the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. New colors include Ember, Hydro Blue, and Midnight Sky. Also, the High Altitude package with 21-inch wheels is available with the Summit model. 

You can now order a dual-screen, rear-seat entertainment system with Amazon FireTV on Limited and higher trims. So, your kids can watch TV pretty easily during long trips. Also, a 10.3-inch screen is available for the passenger. 

Other than that, the Grand Cherokee L remains the same for now. There are whispers of a new inline-six engine in the works, and we will follow those clues. We might see new updates for the Grand Cherokee L at the New York Auto Show in April. 

The Grand Cherokee L comes with a standard 3.6-liter V6 engine with 290 hp and 257 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 5.7-liter V8 engine for 357 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. The V8 is exclusively offered with 4×4.

Standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, blind=spot warning, automated emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assistance.
