Jeep may be well-known for making cars that can go off-road really well, but that doesn’t mean that Jeeps can’t be high-tech. Indeed, Jeep offers quite a lot of features and options on its lineup of cars, and Jeep is expanding that list. Here’s a look at the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L and how it’s getting an option for a passenger screen.

A brief look at the history of the Jeep Grand Cherokee L

While the Jeep Wrangler has been the face of the company for a long time now, the Grand Cherokee was always the more conventional-looking option for Jeep fans. However, the Jeep Grand Cherokee was still a Jeep, and as such, it still had a lot of great features. However, two of the more essential features that the Grand Cherokee offer are more space and, of course, off-road capability.

However, while the Grand Cherokee was a mid-size SUV that offered plenty of room, Jeep saw an opportunity to expand on that, literally. That’s why, for the 2021 model year, Jeep released the Grand Cherokee L, which, like its name implies, is larger than the regular Grand Cherokee. Instead of being a two-row SUV, the Grand Cherokee L has three rows and many new features. This, of course, comes at an increased model price.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L is getting a big passenger-side infotainment screen

Like Car and Driver reported, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee already has an option for a passenger-side screen, and the 2022 Grand Cherokee L is getting that same option. This passenger-side screen is about 10.3 inches, and it’ll be available on multiple trims of the Grand Cherokee L. Those will be the Limited, Overland, and Summit trims.

While most owners will have to pay extra for this passenger-side screen, it will be standard on the Summit Reserve trim of the car. This passenger-side screen is also connected to the rest of the car’s infotainment systems. As such, it can access navigation features, the camera system, and of course, entertainment features. Furthermore, this passenger-side screen is in addition to the standard 10.1-inch screen that’s elsewhere on the dashboard.

On top of all that, Car and Driver wrote that folks can add two more 10.1-inch screens to their Grand Cherokee L. Those screens will be mounted on the back of the front seats, and they’ll allow the people in the second row to stay entertained. These upgrades will make the Grand Cherokee L a better SUV for families. That said, this won’t be a cheap SUV. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L starts at about $41,000, and these add-on technology options will cost thousands more.

How does the expensive Grand Wagoneer compare?

All of those great tech features make the Jeep Grand Cherokee L a compelling option, but it’s not the only option on the market. Indeed, Jeep offers another high-quality, three-row SUV, the Grand Wagoneer. Like other Jeeps, it can off-road quite well, but what sets the Grand Wagoneer apart is just how luxurious it is.

Its cabin is not only spacious but decked out with luxury materials. There are plenty of tech features, too, and it already has an option for a 10.3-inch passenger-side screen. Not only that, but this Jeep is quite powerful, as it comes with a 6.4-liter V8 engine that gets 471 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque.

That being said, the Grand Wagoneer isn’t cheap whatsoever. After all, it starts at just under $90,000. As such, the Grand Cherokee L is definitely the more affordable and balanced option for folks who don’t need the power or luxury that the Grand Wagoneer is offering.
