Jeep has outdone itself this time. The 2022 Grand Wagoneer is garnering rave reviews for its luxury interior. The Grand Wagoneer is so luxurious that it doesn’t even carry the Jeep branding. (Apparently, the thought is that the luxury consumer set isn’t all that attracted to the Jeep name.) Curious about what aspects of this vehicle’s interior have gotten people talking? We’re here to spell it out for you.

 The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer offers some impressive specs

The pricey 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer doesn’t necessarily differ all that much from the standard Jeep Wagoneer in terms of specs. It comes with a 6.4 L V8 engine, 8-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive. At 471 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque, the Grand Wagoneer’s engine is certainly nothing to sneeze at in terms of power. 

However, the Grand Wagoneer won’t be the first vehicle choice of anyone concerned about fuel economy or price. It gets only 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway, so it’s not the car you need if you’re looking to cut your spending on gas. As for cost, the Grand Wagoneer currently starts at $88,640 and goes all the way up to $107,995 for the top-end Series III trim. 

A look at the Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s luxury interior

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is basically a more luxurious version of its sibling, the Wagoneer. As such, of course, it comes with a significant upcharge. That extra money certainly buys an impressive luxury vehicle interior, though.

Autoblog took a close look at the Grand Wagoneer Obsidian, the second-highest trim level in the series, and reported back on its “flashy luxury oasis” of an interior. Jeep’s luxury SUV is meant to compete with other luxury full-size SUVs such as the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator, and judging from appearances, it seems to have succeeded in its goal for the most part.

For starters, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer Obsidian comes with beautiful Palermo leather-covered massaging seats that can be both heated and cooled. The seats’ quilting, contrast stitching, and prominent contrast piping create the impression of hand-crafted, detail-oriented luxury.

Another eye-catching feature of the Grand Wagoneer’s interior is its real walnut wood trim, which adorns the center console and other vital spots in the vehicle. Adding further touches of elegance are the glossy black trim, leather, and metal that combine for a genuinely top-of-the-line look.

The luxury interior does have a few areas for improvement

While many aspects of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s interior wowed Autoblog, it also pointed out some areas for improvement. (And no, we’re not referring to the concern we’ve previously written about regarding its lane-centering function.) 

Many of the areas of concern that Autoblog noted revolved around the surprisingly large number of screens placed around the Grand Wagoneer’s interior. For example, the backlighting on the seating temperature controls can be uneven, making interacting with the unit complex (a difficulty seemingly enhanced by the controls’ uneven functionality).

Moreover, there’s the question of the strange placement of the hill descent control feature. Autoblog noted that in the week it was testing the Grand Cherokee, passengers bumped this control on more than one occasion and ended up accidentally engaging it. The suggestion that Jeep consider making this button harder to press seems like a good one to us if anyone at the manufacturer is listening. 

Last up on our list of potential flaws in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer is the rearview camera mirror, which doesn’t operate as it should in weather conditions that are less than ideal. Given the importance of visibility in all conditions, we hope Jeep improves this area soon.

All in all, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer can make for a great choice if you’re looking for a luxurious ride with some of the finest materials available adorning the interior. If you’re looking for similar power without the top-of-the-line luxury, though, a Wagoneer may make for an ideal compromise.
