Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Series III Really Worth Nearly $110K?
The Jeep Wagoneer is a full-size three-row SUV and an American classic. The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer have been around since the 1960s. For almost three decades, the Wagoneer, with its body-on-frame construction, got the job done until Jeep pulled the plug in 1994.
Now, the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer returns as an innovative luxury SUV. The opulent Grand Wagoneer version boasts an impressive list of features and plenty of power. It also carries a hefty price tag. Is the range-topping 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Series III worth almost $110,000?
Overview of the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer
The Grand Wagoneer calls to mind thoughts of rugged goodness and adventures in a wood-paneled family hauler. But Jeep revived its full-size SUV to compete in a new class: large luxury SUV. Along with a six-figure MSRP that seems a prerequisite for the segment, the Grand Wagoneer has standard four-wheel drive and a big 6.4-liter V8 engine producing 471 hp.
The cabin is an enjoyable space. It’s gorgeous with plush, comfortable accommodations and plenty of passenger room. It also provides a selection of high-tech features that will keep everyone connected and entertained.
It’s the biggest, most luxurious vehicle Jeep has ever produced.
The 2022 Grand Wagoneer boasts an impressive list of driver assists and can tow up to 10,000 pounds. As you might expect, it’s huge and not the easiest to navigate or park. It’s thirsty, too, but shoppers looking at vehicles in this segment are probably not overly concerned with fuel economy.
The base-model Grand Wagoneer features an adaptive air suspension, a hands-free liftgate, and 20-inch alloy wheels. It also has a panoramic sunroof, retractable running boards, and a tow hitch.
Inside, find four-zone climate control, leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated front seats with a massage feature. The cabin has customizable ambient lighting.
You get a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, a digital gauge display, and a wireless charging pad. Also, expect integrated navigation, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. In addition, there’s a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system and a handy 115-volt household-style power outlet.
Other perks include a driver’s seat with memory settings, power-adjustable pedals, and a heated, power-adjustable steering wheel. The second-row captain’s chairs are heated. And the third row offers 60/40-split folding.
Driver assists include a head-up display, forward collision mitigation, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts. It also has standard adaptive cruise control, automated parking, lane-keep assist, and a 360-degree surround-view system.
The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Series III adds features galore
The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s top-of-the-line model is the Series III. It has everything the base model offers, plus all the bells and whistles in the Convenience Group and Premium Group II packages, Edmunds reports. Series III also boasts quilted leather upholstery.
The Convenience Group adds adjustable roof rail crossbars, a camera monitoring system for the rear seats, and a digital rearview mirror. There’s also a driver attention monitoring system, infrared night vision camera with animal and pedestrian detection, and front cross-traffic alerts. Series III also has traffic sign recognition and enhanced adaptive cruise control.
Additionally, the Premium Group II package includes color-tinted windows, a front console cooling box, ventilated second-row seats, and a 23-speaker McIntosh audio system.
Is all of that worth over $100,000? Well, the answer is subjective. But compared to rivals, the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Series III is competitively priced.
How the Series III compares to the competition
Regardless of which Jeep Grand Wagoneer you go with, it’ll cost you. The 2022 base model starts at $89,995. According to Car and Driver, the range-topping Series III will set you back $109,995.
Though it seems steep at first glance, it’s on par with peers like the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
The 2022 Cadillac Escalade starts at $77,840 — significantly lower than the base Grand Wagoneer — but the Caddy can’t match the Jeep’s stunning list of features. The top-trim Escalade Sport Platinum will run you $105,740.
The same can be said of the 2022 Lincoln Navigator, starting at $78,405 and rising to $107,720 for the Black Label L. Likewise, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class starts at $78,900 and runs upward of $100,400.
Will Jeep’s gamble on this ultra-luxury SUV pay off? We’ll know soon.
