The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer Outmuscles the Ford Expedition
Today we’re focusing on a battle between three-row SUVs as the Jeep Wagoneer steps up to the plate against the Ford Expedition. While the Expedition has been the leading SUV for years, the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer just brought more muscle to the table.
2022 Jeep Wagoneer vs. Ford Expedition: Which SUV is stronger?
Tell the 2022 Ford Expedition to move over because the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer is the new winner regarding towing capacity. According to Cars.com, the Jeep Wagoneer has the highest towing capacity, with the ability to pull up to 10,000 lbs.
The Ford Expedition came in second place, and it can tow up to 9,000 lbs. So, the leading SUV for towing has a 1,000-pound advantage over the competition.
The Chevy Suburban is the non-luxury SUV with the lowest towing capacity of 8,300 lbs, and the Land Rover Range Rover is last, with the ability to only tow about 8,200 lbs.
Also, the Wagoneer can carry a payload of up to 1,500 lbs, and the Expedition has a payload capacity of about 1,758 lbs.
Does the Expedition or Wagoneer have more power?
The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer comes with a 5.7-liter V8 engine that provides 392 hp and 404 lb-ft of torque. But the 2023 Wagoneer features a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine with 420 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque.
It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.4 seconds, but the 2023 model could be faster. But despite changing engines, the 2023 Wagoneer didn’t get an increased towing capacity.
With the 2022 Ford Expedition, you get a 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine that pumps out 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. This engine is tuned to churn out 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque in higher trim levels.
The Expedition can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.6 seconds. That’s hardly sower than the Wagoneer. The Expedition features a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the Wagoner has an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Jeep Wagoneer gets an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and up to 22 mpg on the highway. But its new engine is expected to be more fuel-efficient.
You get a one mpg advantage with the Expedition. It gets an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and up to 23 mpg on the highway.
Does the Wagoneer or Expedition have more value?
You can get started in a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer for $58,995. The 2022 Ford Expedition starts at $51,080. So, you can save thousands with an Expedition.
But these prices are the MSRPs and don’t include the destination fee or dealership markups. Plus, the base model of the Expedition only comes with five seats.
Both the Expedition and Wagoneer offer luxurious amenities such as leather upholstery, but the Wagoneer takes things a step further with ambient lighting and pops of genuine wood. However, the Expedition does have attractive accent stitching.
The Wagoneer has a 10.1-inch infotainment system, and the Expedition has a standard 12.0-inch screen. You can opt for a larger 15.5-inch unit in the Expedition. Also, the Wagoneer offers a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster and an optional 10.3-inch infotainment screen for passengers.
