The 2022 Kia EV6 is in high demand. Sure, a lot of that is a result of the chip shortage, but it’s also because, well, just look at it. Is it a wagon? Is it a crossover? No matter what it is, people want it. Thankfully, there’s plenty of information out there to look over. Things certainly look promising, and even better, some European outlets have already gotten their hands on units to test.

Stylistically, the EV6 certainly has a lot of curb appeal. However, will the numbers add up upon closer examination?

Unfortunately, the 2022 Kia EV6 is still a ways off. As a result, we’ve only got Car and Driver’s estimated pricing to go off. There’s four EV6 models to choose from, in ascending order of expense. First, the RWD standard and long range versions, then the GT-Line (think: Stinger GT-Line), and finally, the full-fat GT. Pricing is as follows: $45,000 and $47,000 for the RWD versions, then $49,000 and $55,000 for the GT-Line and GT respectively.

Predicatbly, power figures for the 2022 Kia EV6 follow much the same trend. Depending on trim, you’ll have between 167 and 576 hp on tap. However, it is important to note that both the GT-Line and GT models will lose you some of that frunk space to accommodate the front electric motors.

The EV6 could be what gets Americans into station wagons again

That said, the EV6 certainly looks more like a station wagon (or Avant, if you’re Audi) than it does SUV. It’s managed the same visual trick as the Porsche Taycan CrossTurismo. By that I mean it’s basically a lifted wagon. Ideally, the slightly higher ride height and crossover-ish lines will help where wagons traditionally struggle: market appeal.

Given the amount of hype surrounding the EV6, it’s unlikely the new EV wagon will need it. Yes, it is technically a station wagon. If we’re using Kia’s own Sportage crossover as a reference, the EV6 is in fact lower. Ergo, station wagon. That may be a downer for some, but it’s hard to argue with fold-flat seats and a big trunk.

Only time will tell if the EV6 is as good as it looks

On paper, things are going very well for the Korean brand’s new EV station wagon. The interior promises to turn a new page for the brand on looks alone, and small touches like USB outlets in the seatback promise added practicality. For now, we’re going to have to wait for more information than that as the EV6 eventually makes its way stateside.
