The Kia Stinger is coming back strong for 2022, but not without a price increase. The increase isn’t enough to turn away potential buyers, and the upgraded features seem worth it. Compared to some of the other cars in this category, like the BMW 3 Series, the Stinger can hold its own in the market.

How much did the price of the 2022 Kia Stinger increase?

The 2021 Kia Stinger GT-line started at $33,090. That has increased to $37,135 for 2022, according to Car and Driver. With that comes some nice upgrades, though. The 255 hp 2.0-liter got an increase to a 2.5-liter turbo-four with around 300 hp.

Another option is a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 that gets 368 hp this time around. Not a bad upgrade for the price.

For some of the other options, the Stinger GT1 actually might have gone down in price by a minimal amount. The 2021 version on Kia’s website is listed at $45,490 for the starting MSRP. The 2022 model is listed at an estimated $44,735.

The 2021 GT2 starts at $52,390 and is only down to $52,335. So it seems that only the GT-line base model is getting an increase, but the upgrades seem worth the $3,000 price increase.

The interior and exterior got a slight update as well. Though it doesn’t quite live up to some of the German competition, it does look good.

Do these cars hold value?

Based on some of Kelley Blue Book’s used listings, the Stinger seems to hold its value fairly well. A 2018 Stinger GT2 with just under 40,000 miles is for sale at $34,495. There are a few at that price. For getting about 40,000 miles out of a three-year-old car, that depreciated very little.

A base Stinger doesn’t seem to be holding quite as well. A 2018 model with 32,000 miles is listed just under $21,000. There is a similar one with 20,000 miles for just over $22,000.

There are not that many of these on the resale market yet, which is good news. That means people are still enjoying the 2018 and 2019 Stingers. That resale price is also in line with something you would see for the Stinger’s competition, which bodes well for this sporty Kia’s future.

Is the Kia Stinger a good car?

For a newly released car, the Kia Stinger seems to be holding its own in the market. Consumer Reports gave it a score of 68 for the 2021 model. That placed it in ninth place out of 16 for luxury compact cars. That’s a pretty hard market to slide into within your first few years.

Beating out the Stinger was the 2021 Infiniti Q50, The 2021 BMW 3 Series, and the 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. These cars have all been around for a long time and have a built-in following at this point.

If the scores haven’t won you over yet, perhaps the 2022 Kia Stinger will lure you in.
