It has an expensive starting price and its parent company has already gotten into some hot water. But, that hasn’t stopped a landslide of Lucid orders and sales, and it’s already being called the best luxury EV.

2022 Lucid Air pricing and trim levels
Pricing for the new Lucid Air isn’t cheap, but what can you expect from a premium luxury electric car?
The cheapest 2022 Air Pure starts at $77,400, the 2022 Air Touring starts at $95,000, and the lavish 2022 Air Grand Touring starts at $139,000. Nobody knows if the cheaper Air trims will be available this year.
The 2022 Air Dream Edition started at $169,000, but sadly you can no longer get one. It was a special, limited-edition variant, and reservations are now closed for the Dream Edition Performance and Range models.
EV range estimates for the 2022 Lucid Air
One of the things that have put Lucid on the map is the Air’s incredible range. Drivers can see over 500 miles of EV range from the Air Grand Touring, and the Air Dream Edition is even more impressive.
According to Lucid, the EV ranges for the different models fall between 406 and 520 miles:

Massive interior space and generous appointments
According to Lucid, the 2022 Air boasts the largest frunk in the electric-car segment. (For those who may not know, a “frunk” is a front trunk—many electric vehicles offer a frunk as additional storage space.) The interior is roomy and plush, the cabin is loaded with premium features and incredible technology, and it’s one of the best-looking new electric cars inside.
Though, there have been some problems with the 2022 Lucid Air that may make real-life ownership complicated.
An incredible performance option for EV enthusiasts
This best luxury EV won’t be for everyone—but with such high starting prices, it doesn’t seem like it was ever meant to be. The super-high-powered 2022 Air Dream Edition Performance model is not quite the most powerful production electric vehicle (that title goes to the Lotus Evija) but it’s definitely up there.
U.S. News’ best luxury electric vehicle offers up to 1,111 horsepower, while lower trim levels offer between 480 and 1,050 horsepower. That’s still plenty powerful for your average daily driving.
Does the Lucid Air qualify for tax credits?
Yes, both the 2022 Air Dream Edition and Air Grand Touring EVs qualify for the full $7,500 federal tax credit, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
