The 2022 Mazda CX-5 Got More Upgrades Than Expected
Someone decided that the 2022 Mazda CX-5 needed more turbo power, which is an exciting upgrade. The updated Mazda CX-5 packs in more value while pricing remains pretty affordable for near-luxury comfort.
The 2022 Mazda CX-5 just gained more power
As the most popular SUV in the lineup, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 is here to stay. The beefier Mazda CX-50 isn’t getting in its way. But we are still attracted to its off-roading upgrades and larger profile.
Anyways, the Mazda CX-5 still has the same base engine. It’s the 2.5-liter four-cylinder option with 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque.
But the optional 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine gained more power. It now pumps out 256 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. This is an increase of six hp, which is better than nothing, right?
Also, the Mazda CX-5 now comes with standard all-wheel drive. It used to cost about $1,400 to add AWD. As a result, the price for the 2022 model starts at $27,125, which is a $580 increase. Most models are now cheaper than the 2021 CX-5 AWD models.
The 2022 CX-5 gained trim updates
Some of the trim names have been changed for the 2022 Mazda CX-5, and one option has been added.
The Mazda CX-5 S ($27,127) is the base model. It comes with the base engine, 17.5-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch infotainment display, cloth seats, two USB ports, Apple CarPlay and Andorid Auto, and a four-speaker sound system.
Standard safety features include rear cross-traffic alert, smart braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and radar cruise control.
The Mazda CX-5 S Select ($29,125) adds rear privacy glass, dual-zone climate control, leatherette seats, keyless entry, three-level heated seats, a six-speaker sound system, and auto-leveling headlights. Passengers in the rear benefit from AC vents, a center armrest, and two USB ports.
With the Mazda CX-5 S Preferred ($30,385), you get a power moonroof, leather seats with more adjustment controls, memory settings for the driver, auto-dimming rear-view mirrors, and a power rear liftgate.
Upgrading to the 2022 Mazda S Carbon Edition ($31,505) adds attractive looks such as Polymetal Grey paint and an optional red interior. 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels and red contrast stitching are also included.
With the S Premium ($33,535), you gain selectable driving modes for Normal, Off-Road, and Sport. It also comes with 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels, LED running lights, adaptive front lighting, and heated door mirrors.
The interior includes a Bose 10-speaker sound system, SiriusXM radio, paddle shifters, and a 7-inch gauge display.
The S Premium Plus ($35,175) kicks things up a notch with a full-color head-up display, traffic sign recognition, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated seats in the rear, automatic power-folding mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer.
If you go for the Turbo ($37,625), then you finally get the turbo engine. It also comes with a gloss black grille, wing, mirrors, and more. The 19-inch wheels have a metallic black finish too. Turbo badging, red accents, contrast stitching, and a wireless phone charger adds to the interior.
Last but not least, the Turbo Signature ($39,875) adds Nappa leather seating and woodgrain accents. Silver accents are added to the wheels, grille, and wing. Plus, you get built-in navigation, driver attention alert, and a 360-degree camera.
Is the 2022 CX-5 worth buying?
Yes, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 is a great SUV to buy. It includes all of the premium features from the outgoing model and sprinkles in a little extra value with more power and standard AWD. But the infotainment system still doesn’t include a touchscreen.
We recommend upgrading to the turbo engine for a sportier and more refined driving experience. It provides a smooth ride and a quiet interior, but cargo space is a little lacking. Enjoy the well-crafted upscale interior and premium audio for relaxing or adventurous drives.
