2022 Mazda CX-5 Price, Trims, Specs
Mazda has officially announced the CX-5 price, trims, and more specs for the compact crossover SUV. Some positive improvements always come with price increases, though these aren’t too significant. The eight trim levels offer plenty of options but vary in price by about $10,000. So, what’s with the 2022 Mazda CX-5?
How much is a 2022 Mazda CX-5?
This crossover SUV is an affordable one; the 2022 Mazda CX-5 price starts at just $27,125. Coming in a few thousand below $30,000 makes it generally equal to other compact crossover options in the market. For instance, the 2022 Honda CR-V starts at $26,875, and the 2022 Toyota RAV4 is estimated to start at around $28,000. The Mazda CX-5 is right in the middle of these two segment-powerhouses.
The highest trim level available for the CX-5 is titled Turbo Signature, which starts at $39,875. An affordable starting point for a crossover provided it is kitted out with everything owners could want. Compared to other similarly-sized offerings, the Toyota RAV4 TRD Off-Road is estimated to cost around $38,000, while the Honda CR-V Touring Hybrid comes in at $37,975. That makes the CX-5 Premium Plus the most expensive top-trim of the bunch.
What are the 2022 Mazda CX-5 trim levels?
For the new model year, Mazda threw away the Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trims. Instead, buyers will choose from S, Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, Premium, Premium Plus, Turbo, and Turbo Signature. Each trim comes with different standard equipment, starting with the engine. The base engine is a 2.5-liter inline-four producing 187 horsepower, but the turbo trim gets a turbocharged version.
The turbocharged engine is the same as the previous model year, but it received a six-horsepower boost up to a total of 256. The fully loaded Turbo Signature model is amazingly $50 cheaper than last year’s top trim level. The Carbon Edition adds a unique color scheme to stand out from the crowd, but nothing beyond that. Every 2022 Mazda CX-5 model will now come with standard all-wheel drive.
2022 Mazda CX-5 Trims | 2022 Mazda CX-5 Price |
S | $27,125 |
S Select | $29,125 |
S Preferred | $30,385 |
S Carbon Edition | $31,505 |
S Premium | $33,535 |
S Premium Plus | $35,175 |
Turbo | $37,625 |
Turbo Signature | $39,875 |
What else is new for 2022?
The new Mazda CX-5 gains exterior styling changes, like smoother surfaces on the front and rear. A new grille between the differently-shaped LED headlights makes the front fascia more pronounced. Mazda claims the retuned transmission is smoother and more responsive than previous iterations. In addition, the automaker says suspension improvements will also make the ride feel more luxurious.
New drive-mode settings are now available, along with the standard all-wheel drive. The Grand Touring Reserve trim has been renamed Turbo, and the Signature trim receives body-color cladding instead of the darker color found on the 2021 model. Although the exterior styling changes are minimal, they’re noticeable right away when looking at the previous and current models.
The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is a compact crossover SUV looking to compete with the best. It’s right on par regarding pricing and equipment when going up against the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. Standard AWD makes the CX-5 more attractive, but the lack of hybrid options in its lineup reduces its versatility. Overall, the new look and feel of the Mazda CX-5 make it an excellent compact crossover SUV option.
