Forget about the Mazda CX-5 you thought you knew! It’s being remodeled. We could see the 2022 Mazda CX-50 soon, but that’s not the only SUV to be excited about. Three new SUVs are on the way.

The Mazda CX-5 is turning into the 2022 Mazda CX-50. Rumors suggest that it will make its debut in November, just in time for the new year. It has a host of changes that the CX-30 and CX-90 may also receive.

But rumors suggest that the CX-50 will replace the CX-5, and the upcoming CX-90 will replace the CX-9. Also, there will be the addition of the new CX-70. This leads to the CX-50, CX-70, and CX-90 as new SUVs.

Drew Cary, Product and Corporate Communications Manager for Mazda, shared that Mazda will introduce new models to further meet the diversified needs of customers.

The changes will occur while maintaining bonds with customers that have been built through existing models like the CX-5. In this sense, the models are positioned as an evolution of the current models.

What to expect with the 2022 CX-50

The 2022 Mazda CX-50 and all other CX models, such as the CX-90, will now come with standard all-wheel drive. This is an excellent perk. Plus, these models will share the same new platform, known as the longitudinal architecture.

This platform will support an inline-sic engine and rear-wheel drive in an effort to make Mazda more of a premium brand. This suggests that we can expect more luxury and more power. We could zoom zoom faster.

Because the platform is larger, the CX-50 could grow in size. It could include more passenger space, cargo room, and headspace. One of the most common complaints about Mazda includes the small backseats.

Prototypes of new Mazda models have been seen in testing, but they are heavily camouflaged. But you can see a subtle redesign based on the Mazda CX-5. It includes a new grille and larger wheels. This makes us wonder if Mazda will be entering the off-roading scene.

What else is new for Mazda?

The Mazda Skyactive-X powertrain will use an inline-six engine that’s paired with a 49-volt hybrid system. Also, the 2022 Mazda CX-50 could have a plug-in hybrid powertrain that uses an inline-four engine.
The CX-30 will serve as a sub-compact crossover, the CX-5 is a subcompact crossover, the CX-50 will be a midsize crossover, the CX-70 will be a wide-body SUV with two rows, and the CX-90 will be a wide-body SUV with three rows. We wonder how much more space it will have than the Mazda CX-9.

Both the CX-70 and CX-90 will be optimized for United States consumers with an expanded interior volume. The Mazda CX-90 will remain as the only three-row Mazda option for now.

The Mazda CX-50 will enter production in January 2022 at the Mazda Toyota joint-venture factory. The Mazda Toyota manufacturing facility is located in Huntsville, Alabama. It’s also where the Toyota Crolla Cross is being manufactured.

We don’t have much to go on based on price and mechanical enhancements yet. But we should find out more soon! November is only a few weeks away.
