If you’re shopping for a 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB, you’ll be happy to know that it has standard room for five, but it can fit up to seven people. That’s right; this small SUV has the option to have a third row installed in its tight cargo area. However, you will most likely only want to fit children or very small adults back there.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the third-row seat can be folded in a 50:50 split configuration to “enhance the versatility of the cargo area.” Fortunately, equipping the EQB with the added seats doesn’t hinder the second-row access either. An EASY ENTRY folding feature is included, along with five more inches of forward sliding adjustment to make getting into the third row a simple affair.

Adding two more seats isn’t free, though. This high-ticket costs an extra $1,250, which is far less than purchasing a larger three-row SUV.

How does the Mercedes-Benz EQB stand up to the competition?

In addition to not having to purchase a three-row SUV, buyers can opt for a three-row Mercedes-Benz and stay ahead of the competition. The EQB competes in a unique class of all-electric SUVs that includes the Tesla Model Y, Genesis GV60, and the Jaguar I-Pace. Out of those three rivals, only the Tesla Model Y has the ability to seat up to seven passengers.

However, adding the third row in the Tesla costs an additional $3,000, which is a lot compared to the option in the Mercedes. Although the Tesla Model Y does start at a similar price of $55,690, it gets better range on a single charge than the EQB, so there are pros and cons to going that route.

Is the Mercedes-Benz EQB a good electric car?

Yes, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz offers plenty of power and range for a compact electric SUV. The base EQB 300 has a starting price of $54,500 and has a maximum range of 243 miles and a standard 4Matic system, which is Mercedes speak for all-wheel drive. In terms of power, the EQB 300 puts out 225 hp and is able to get from 0-60 mph in 7.0 seconds.

Buyers that want a little more power can opt for the EQB 350, which comes with a 215 kW motor system that puts out 288 hp. With the additional ponies, the EQB 350 can get up to 60 mph from a standstill in 6 seconds. However, its range suffers a bit as it can only get up to a maximum of 227 miles on a single charge.

The Mercedes-Benz EQB isn’t all about power, though. Much like its GLB architectural twin, the EQB offers a lavish interior with retro styling and a dual-screen layout. There are also many soft-touch textures and surfaces that you would expect, in addition to standard features like power seats, a panoramic roof, and Apple Carplay/Android Auto.

However, if you want the added third row, you’ll have to pay a little extra. But considering what you get for the price, it’s worth it.
